Jim said as the spring-powered metal hand came to life. Sandra -- with Sharon helping, of course -- did a really good
job installing the hand, and Jim tested it by smashing a full Coke can.
Of course he sprayed Coke over all of them, something which the
girls didn't really like. Sharon, on her part, was relieved that Jim
was feeling visibly better; she could 'hear' Sandra thinking about having
Jim come over and do some tune-ups to her go-kart when the whole business was over.
"Well, it'll never do for writing, but I'm right handed anyway. Thanks."
"Now what about us Jim? Do you have anything that could restore us to normal?"
"Well Sandra, I think you two look real good in that coat."
"JIM!!!"
"Hey hon, easy. I didn't mean THAT. Anyway... lessee..."
Jim began to walk about the lab for a good three minutes, looking at some notes and mumbling something. He seemed to have forgotten about Sharon and Sandra, who were cleaning themselves (Sandra quite meant it about the grease).
He's always like that when he works.
Do you think he's going to get anywhere?
Well, most of the stuff he puts together DOES work. Mostly.
Mostly as in "mostly good" or "mostly harmless"?
Sharon felt a little anxious. She could manage this conjoinment thing -- looking at their figures on a steel panel, she actually found it kind of sexy, but the real problem was that Sandra was turning out to be much more akin to Jim than she was -- she even quoted Douglas Adams without having to think about it! And she was definitely good with mechanics.
"I got news. Good or bad first?" Jim asked, suddenly exiting from his self-induced trance.
"Good."
"Bad."
They laughed for a moment, then Jim resumed.
"Bad news is, your original genetic code is lost and I can't possibly rebuild it. Good news is, I think I can make a cloning vat to make two female bodies. Problem is: where do we get the sample?"
