Sharon was no longer the novelty that she had been at first, and faces peered in at her only occasionally now. Thus nobody noticed that during the week before her fridge was next due to be replaced she had shrunk to about four inches in height. Half an hour before the fridge was due to be replaced (for the replacement always occurred within fifteen minutes or so of 10am) she removed and hid the fridge shelves, climbed inside and pulled the door closed after her. It was a tight squeeze, cold and of course dark, so she hoped that the switch would take place on time. She also hoped that the replacement had become so routine that the man doing it wouldn't notiice that she was nowhere to be seen.
It seemed a long wait, but eventually she felt the fridge being lifted into the air. Sharon assumed that they would have two fridges, with the full one being installed whilst the old one was taken away, emptied and cleaned, ready for restocking in a week's time. Since she couldn't see out, she would have to wait for the fridge to stop moving anfd then guess the right moment to make her break. If she could do it before they went to empty the fridge, she would have a better chance of getting away undetected.
She guessed that the fridge would probably be moved in two stages. After the first, it would be left on the table top whilst the new fridge was inserted and the perspex cover replaced. TGhen it would be taken away to wherever they emptied, cleaned and stored it. Thus when it stopped moving after a short time, she stayed where she was, since if it was on the table top she might be very visible, and also find getting down from it very difficult.
