Jim reached down; thinking that some kind of tiny critters in the water might be pulling on his fur. But he felt only skin on his foot. Then his hand began to tingle as well.
He held it up; expecting to see wet fur in the dim predawn light - but he saw skin instead. On his natural hand.
Jim dropped into the shallow water and rolled. Suddenly the tingle spread across his entire body.
A moment later he walked out of the water as his original self - and promptly found himself face to face with Tony.
“Where did the skunk girl go?” Tony asked.
“Sorry; bud. That was me. A little accident with a VR program and some nanites.” Jim laughed. “Seems the salt water deactivated them.”
Tony grabbed Jim by the shoulders. “Don’t lie to me; punk!”
“I’m not.” And he told Tony about a little incident from earlier that only the skunk girl could know about.
”AARRGH!” A moment of silence; then Tony continued. “I really liked the skunk girl.” “I could tell.” Jim smiled. “Would you please lend me a towel?”
“Sure.” Tony shrugged. “You’d better wash the salt off first.”
After a quick shower; Jim dried off and ...
