Name's Justin. I'm just your standard, every day, 18-year-old collage student. Or at least I was until one day I happened across something weird.
At the start of my day, I began it like any other. I walked downstairs to my living room, and there was my 16-year-old sister, Maria, quickly getting some last minute things together. In the kitchen was my mother, the 32-year-old Kylie, helping out with breakfast before we have to leave for school. I have no father, as he left shortly after Maria was born.
"Ah, you're awake early today!" my mother said.
"How rare," my sister grunted. "Mom, where is my history test? I thought I had it in my bag here."
"It's right here on the counter," I observed, pointing to it. I picked it up and handed it to Maria.
"Thanks," Maria said. Contrary to her attitude, we actually get along well. She's just rather stressed at the moment, school and all.
"Okay, guys, finish your breakfast and I'll take you to school!" mom said. I really need a driver's license. And a car. But since we only have one car, mom takes us everywhere and then goes to her job because that's just easier. But one of these days...
My family and I finish our breakfast and then head off to school. I was dropped off at my nearby collage first, and then they left. I was patted on my back as I walked to the front doors.
"Hey, bucko!" A voice yelled. This was my friend, Trevor. Slightly shorter than me, but more outgoing. He even had a girlfriend, named Olivia, something I was still trying to work on. "After school today, me and Olivia are heading to a movie. Want to come with?"
"First of all, it's Olivia and I," I laughed. Trevor grunted, calling me a grammar nut. "And second, no, I always feel like a third wheel to you guys."
"Get a girl to come with you, then," Trevor laughed. "Simple! I noticed the girl behind her has been looking up at you in Math class."
"Well, that's because she sits behind me, she has to look forward to see the board,"
"You're no fun," Trevor grunted, and then the bell rang. "Whoop, let's get to class, bucko!" Bucko. Why does he call me that?
Trevor and I run into the school and continue normally from there. Once in Math class, I looked behind me during the lesson. Sure enough, the girl was looking forward, but at the board. When she noticed I was looking at her, she gave a faint smile before looking down at her paper, and I quickly turned away. I didn't even know her name, maybe I should get to know her later?
Several long and boring hours later, my mom arrived to pick me up, followed by my sister, and we headed to our small apartment. When we walked in, my sister noticed something on the counter.
"What's this?" Maria asked as she walked over to the object. It was a small box with a note. "It reads "Justin"."
"How did that get in here?" my mother asked. I shrugged, but I took it from my sister anyway. After looking it over and not finding a sender, I opened it. Inside was a small remote with a single big red button in the center.
"That looks stupid," Maria laughed. "What is that supposed to be used for, anyway? Some kind of universal remote?"
"I'll look over it, see what I can find out," I said as I took the thing to my room. I looked over the remote after putting my things away. On the back, there was some writing:
"The REALITY BENDER Remote: Just point, think, click, and watch as reality warps around you!
