Sharon quickly decided that in this heat walking anywhere was out if the question. She would just have to go back inside the store, so that she could use their phone to report the theft of her car to the police and then call for a taxi. Surely the old pervert of a storekeeper wouldn't dare to try on anything with her? After all, another customer might come in at any time.
She was to be swiftly disabused of that notion. When she told him that her car had been stolen and asked to use his car, he said: "Well, sweetheart you can do me a favor for those phone calls, if you know what I mean."
"I'll happily pay you for the calls, but that's all," she said as firmly as she could manage, uncomfortably aware that in this body it was hard to seem very authoritative. She dug in her purse, pulled out a couple of dollar bills and put them on the counter. "That should more than cover it."
"OK," the man said. "You can't blame me for trying. The phone's out back." He pointed to a door behind him.
"Thank you."
