“Malon! Romani! Don’t play in the forest past sunset, you hear me? And don’t- oh, never mind, they’re already gone. My goodness, who raised those little tomboys anyway?”

Link’s call trailed off as she watched her twin daughters vanish over the path that led to the ranch, the young girls hardly paying their portly mother any mind. She sighed and wiped the sweat from her forehead before grunting and placing down the bucket she was carrying, finishing the last of her chores, as meagre as they might be for a woman of her size.

In the year since she’d gotten married, settled down, and had k1ds, Link had doubled in weight, width, and length, morbidly obese even by the heavy standards of the now-average Ordonian woman. Her hips barely fit through the doorway of her home, and her ass was so huge that even now her daughters made a game out of climbing onto her and lying across it like some sort of bench. She’d taken to wearing long skirts if only to stop her gut from sagging down so far the flesh was long enough to poke out, and it was a struggle to reach her navel on a good day. This was only made worse by the fact that she was now on her second pregnancy, her usually sagging belly perked up by the two or three babies the fertile housewife carried, forming a more spherical shape than usual. Her breasts were so huge it looked like she had more milk in her than a cow, easily dwarfing her head with each one, and she wore a low-necked dress with her cleavage baked into a deep tan by long days in the sun. It was a testament to her robust work ethic that she could still move with any sort of relative ease, and perhaps the only thing stopping her from ballooning even further.

Luckily for her, her husband Fado liked his girls big and his wife bigger, and worked extra hard to make up for the fact that Link only stayed on her feet and active through her pregnancy out of concern that if she let herself get pampered, she might end up a barely mobile housewife too fat to even help out around the ranch. Not that he’d have minded, but Link felt the need to at least be able to keep up with her k1ds somewhat. It was a wonder the two of them had only had two k1ds so far, she thought to herself.

Yes, she mused as she took the load of her body off of her tired legs by sitting down on her reinforced chair outside the stables, she’d had quite a nice life since Fado had finally proposed to her, sealing her fate as an ordinary Ordon housewife for the rest of her days, too committed to raising a family to do silly things like run off and save a kingdom, or lose weight. Somehow, it had simply become somebody else’s problem. Who could blame her? Had they seen her lately? The idea of her ever becoming less than a total fatass seemed like a pipe dream, she just wasn’t cut out for it.

There was just one lingering sour spot in her life now, one loose thread that had never been resolved, and had spun off the day Fado had proposed, leaving before

“I wonder what Midna is up to these days…” Link mumbled, preparing to doze off in her chair.

“Why not just ask?”

Link’s sleepy eyes shot wide open, recoiling in her chair at the unmistakable voice giggling into her ear.. It was perhaps a testament to how stable the chair was, or how difficult it was for her to move, that the jolt didn’t send her tumbling back

“Midna!” Link almost shouted, turning furiously to the hovering imp next to her. “You can’t surprise me like that! What if something happened to the babies?”

“You’re pregnant? Well, congratulations! I couldn’t tell with that big gut of yours.” Midna gave her trademark toothy grin. “Good to see that you got even fatter while I wasn’t around.”

“Like you’re one to talk.” Link scoffed, observing Midna’s new figure. Midna had completely spoiled her reintroduction, and already LInk was in a bickering mood. “After all those jabs and jibes about my weight you went and turned yourself into a fatty too.”

Midna unconsciously tried to suck her belly in a little, doing little to assuage the fact that she’d turned into quite the lumpy pumpkin since her disappearance. The potato-shaped imp had doubled in size as well, her belly-heavy body being emphasised even more with a huge pot belly that hung out as if she was pregnant, identifiable otherwise only by how soft and wobbly it was. Her thighs were so thick one wondered if she could do more than awkwardly waddle with them, and even her arms had thickened and gained visible sagging wings at her biceps. Her head was already large and wide, but one could still notice a second chin that squashed and stretched whenever her rubenesque cheeks widened either to smugly grin or to stuff more food into her mouth. She looked the same as either otherwise, grey and black and cutely imp-like.

“Yeah, well…” Midna averted her gaze, scratching her second chin guiltily. “Call it stress-eating. It’s not like I walk anywhere, you know, I don’t burn many calories-”

Midna was cut off by a smothering hug, pulled deep into Link’s softness. Midna ignored any urge to make a snarky comment, just enjoying sinking into Link’s comforting body. After what might have been minutes of hugging, she was eventually forced to come back up for breath.

“So.” Midna attempted to regain her usual smug composure. “How’s the family? I saw two adorable little girls on my way here, I don’t suppose they’re yours?”

“Indeed they are.” Link said, and Midna nearly recoiled from the proud maternal glow radiating off of Link. “Shall I introduce you to them? They’re at the age where they can’t get enough of monsters and creepy things.”

“Who are you calling creepy?” Midna crossed her arms, her bulging belly emphasised even more by the contrast of her chubby arms resting atop it. “And let’s worry about family later, right now I’m feeling selfish and want you all to myself.”

Link’s expression turned downcast as she remembered how Midna had reacted when Fado had popped the question, unaware that Link was in something of a romantic relationship with an imp hidden from the village’s gaze. Link had said yes on impulse, having had a budding relationship with him despite herself, unable to choose between the two. Midna had simply stated that Link would be happier having a normal life, then refused to talk to her for the rest of the day, and then vanished by the time Link woke up.

“Of course you’re being selfish.” Link said with a balled fist. “It’s been six years since you vanished, and now you say you want me all to yourself? You’re not being fair.”

“It was never going to work out.” Midna said sadly. “You had too much to gain by ditching me.”

“Ditching you? You ditched me! We could have figured it out together. I’m sure everybody would have understood.” Link argued.

“Maybe they could have accepted me eventually if we went public.” Midna admitted. “But I couldn’t rob you of a proper love and a proper family. You never could have had all this if I hadn’t left.”

Link wanted to shout at her, but when she thought of her daughters and her next children on the way, she could do nothing but stay silent. Eventually, she was forced to give in and change the subject.

“So,” Link said, trying to sound more casual. “What’ve you been up to, anyway?”

“In the end, not much.” Midna said sourly. “Turns out there’s not that many with the proper heroing credentials out there. Plenty of good folks, as you country people would call them, but if they can’t resist Zant’s magic and the power of Twilight, there’s only so far we can get. I suppose I’ve just been milling around since then, I’m quite the ordinary sight in Hyrule Castle Town these days. By this point, the good citizens are quite used to things like me.”

“Well, I assumed as much. It’s been years since he became king, after all.” Link admitted. “Still, it hasn’t been as bad as I’d thought, and not just because he doesn’t have much interest in Ordon. The country didn’t burn down like we thought either.”

“You can thank the lovely Princess Zelda for that. She’s managed to keep Zant surprisingly content with merely ruling Hyrule over the years.” Midna commented. “Or rather, I should say Queen Zelda. Can you believe that Zant had the gall to invite me to the wedding? At least the bride looked great in that dress. By the way, she’s been doing a little stress-eating of her own. The last I checked, she’s almost as big as you were when I left…”

Midna recalled Zelda the last time she’d seen her, her royal fashion significantly changed to suit Zant’s tastes over the years. She’d been wearing a black skirt and belly-baring top covered in the markings of the Twilight royal family, her entire gut hanging out for Zant to fondle. The getup reminded Midna of her own clothes back before she’d been cursed into the form of an imp, which was a mortifying thought.

“Did she stop the spread of Twilight?” Link asked as Midna remembered the last time she’d seen Zelda. “I half-expected to have to fight off monsters every other day out here in Ordon, but things haven’t changed much over the years.”

“Stop? What makes you think she stopped anything?” Midna sounded surprised.

“Well, Ordon hasn’t been overrun with twilight yet.” Link pointed out. Midna raised her hand to her forehead, realising just how far from being a hero Link was at this point.

“Hasn’t been overrun yet? It was overrun years ago!” Midna explained, Link’s eyes widening. “Didn’t you think it was odd that I wasn’t in shadow form?””

Link felt foolish for not noticing.

“I thought you had just, you know, gotten stronger or something.” Link said weakly. She held up the back of her hand, gazing at the almost completely faded Triforce mark, only the faintest of outlines. “I suppose I’m really not much of a hero anymore, if I didn’t even notice that, let alone turn into a wolf…”

“Well, that’s just how the cookie crumbles.” Midna shrugged it off, wishing she hadn’t used a turn of phrase involving food, because already her stomach rumbled.

“Shall I put something on for you?” Link smiled, grunting as she climbed to her feet. “Don’t answer, you’re staying for dinner whether you like it or not. This time I’m introducing you to my husband, and that’s final. We’ve seen stranger things with all the monsters about.”

“Don’t blame me if he faints.” Midna grinned again, the two heading into Link’s house together. The two might have failed in their goals and had to settle for ordinary with a less than perfect end to their stories, but, if they were happy despite that, perhaps that’d be just fine too…
