Link was now nothing more than a useless spider. A small, delicate creature most people in Hyrule would smash without second thought. Link felt her own face, now covered in multiple sets of eyes designed to view the world around her clearly, even in darkness. And underneath, her mouth, now changed entirely, a set of fangs hang on display, designed as a final defense against the many dangers the world had for creatures such as her. Though now smaller than even a ch1ld’s hand, they would do little in the way of protection against anything much larger than herself. With worry, Link called out to Midna again, to try and reach an understanding. “Midna! We need to fix this!” She yelled as loud as her new body and mouth would allow her. But the twilight princess did not respond in any form. Was she even speaking human words? Or did she now emit the near inaudible chirps and hisses of an ordinary spider? She had no way of knowing for sure, as long as she remained invisible to the world around her. “Midna!” Link cried again, “MIDNA!!”
The imp turned to look at the hero. Though Link remained unsure if she had been heard at all. Midna’s eyes went wide, each iris now eclipsing Link’s size in full. “Link? Is that you?” Midna asked. Her voice now booming, the air around Link vibrated chaotically, carrying her words and threatening to carry Link herself off with them. But she remained in place, thanks to her newfound grip across all eight of her legs.
“Yes! Midna! You have to help me!” Link pleaded. But her plight must have fallen on deaf ears as the imp did not respond, she merely blinked and looked closer. “What happened? Did that curse do this? Or is this just some nasty spider?” Midna pondered. Her words struck dread into Link. She truly could not be heard, her voice was not strong enough to reach the ears it needed to. “Midna! It’s me! It’s Link! Please! You have to help me! You have to hear me!” Link struggled again to be heard, rising up on her legs as much as she could. Though this action was not perceived how she had hoped. As Midna flinched in disgust, lifting a foot and bringing it down through the air towards the spider. The air vibrated rapidly, and somehow, Link could feel the foot before it had hit the ground. Her heart was beating, dread filled her body, as she lurched to the side and began to dash desperately out of the impact zone.
BOOM!!!
The foot had landed upon the ground, and jolted the spider slightly. Link had managed to avoid the attack. With great distance from the point of impact. She survived unscathed. But terror had scarred her, as she now truly realized the danger she was in. The change in scope she has begun to experience. Though it was likely for defense, Midna, a tiny mass that she would have never considered a threat before, was now a great danger to be around. She could end Link at any moment with minimum effort, using only a finger if she chose. And she was on the small side of things, even the children of the village loomed larger than her, and would likely be devastating if they ever decided to attack.
“Hey don’t threaten me! Stupid thing! Are you Link or aren’t you?” Midna questioned. She sighed, and reached up onto Link’s table. For what, Link was unsure. But as she looked back down, Link was sure it would soon be revealed. “If you are Link, and if you can understand me, just don’t move! Otherwise there’s no use talking to a spider.” Midna warned. She turned down again towards the changes heroine, a jar and lid in her hands. The movement was swift, yet gentle, as Link obeyed and remained still, not daring to move even an inch. Midna scooped her up into the bottle, and shut the lid gently, trapping her inside.
Link began to crawl around frantically, not wanting to be trapped inside this prison, fearing suffocation, or worse. But it was all for not, as the glass walls around her began to rise up to eye level with her captor. From here, Link could see her entire home, beginning to comprehend again just how truly small she was now. “Hmmm, I’m still not convinced. Could some curse really turn the hero into this disgusting thing?” Midna whispered to herself. “If it did, the hero would be able to give me some sort of sign. Otherwise, you’re of no use to me, little spider.”
Link stopped her frantic crawling, and began to think desperately for a way to give Midna some sort of sign that she was in fact the hero, changed into some form even more cursed than before. Trapped now in one of her own bottles. She scrambled for an idea, something, anything, she needed to give Midna a sign. It was clear the imp was growing impatient, as she signed and began to reach for the Jar. Link had to think quick, has to act now. Otherwise she may remain trapped here forever, or worse. She scuttled to the side of the glass quickly, climbing up with her new appendages, and…
