Justine nodded. "Good idea," she said. "Brrrr! Is it cold here, or is it just me?"
"It is cold," Daniel agreed. "And while I'd be happy to help you warm up, part of me seems to be saying--"
"--that we did just help each other warm up, and something really weird happened," she finished.
Daniel flashed her an annoyed expression. "There you go again, Jig, finishing my sentences for me. I thought you'd kicked that habit!"
"Well, we haven't really been together like this for a while, and -- wait a minute, since when have I finished your sentences? And why did you just call me 'Jig?'"
Daniel threw up his hands in despair. "I don't know. I don't know! I'm going to get up, rebuild the fire..." In moments he was out of the bag, naked as a jay bird, and prodding at the embers of their campfire with a stick. Justine felt guilty, like she had drive him away or something. Odd how she half-remembered having sex with him and -- those other things. She had actually been intending to, despite having joined him on this trip with no such intentions, and half of her now regretted the lost opportunity. The other half, though, was breathing a sigh of relief.
"Damn it," Daniel was saying, why didn't I lay in some extra wood. I wish I could get this fire to--"
FOOSH! The campfire blazed up over a bed of freshly-laid branches and twigs. Daniel stumbled back, startled.
"Good God!" cried Justine. "It's true! We wish something and it happens! But HOW?"
Daniel straightened up, slapping at a spark or two that had landed on his bare flesh, and turned to her. "Justine," he said seriously, "a few moments ago you were about to wish something yourself, and I stopped you. What was it, were you wishing for a bigger fire? I have to know, it might just be you, not both of us."
"No, I was just about to wish we knew what was going on," Justine said.
Daniel nodded. "Maybe I stopped you too soon. We do need to know that, or I for one, am going to go nuts!"
"Shall I--?"
"Please."
Justine took a deep breath. "Okay, Danny, here goes. I wish--"
