JMY: Sharon's Serious Joke

"The assistant turned into a hamster?" Jim asked, appalled. "I wouldn't have thought that was possible."

Sharon managed to keep a straight face for a few seconds as she observed Jim's shocked expression, but then she could hold back her giggles no longer. "Of course he didn't turn into a hamster," she said. "I was only joking - but it was a joke to make a serious point, that some of this stuff could be very dangerous to mess around with if you aren't sure of what you're doing. Actually, your assistant left because you couldn't afford to pay him enough."

1. Sharon's ruse has succeeded in calming Jim down.
2. Jim is still over-excited.
3. *Ironically, it's Sharon who accidentally trips over a piece of equipment, left untidily on the floor. She falls against a large, mysterious machine, depressing its "on" button in the process.
