BSX: The Lost Sector

Unending BE - episode 250629

This episode is hereby hijacked to correct a mistake. You see, when Deja Voodoo wrote in the industrial sectors, he actually missed one other small sector, nestled in between the Sects Sector and Alchemists' Row.

It's not surprising. The only previous reference to it was in the thread where D.J. and Lizzie take a vacation, and mention that two sectors beyond Restaurant Row is one that has a beach boardwalk. That was in the days before francis's insanity resulted in the Shopping and Bar Sector, the Green Light District, and the Sects Sector being shoehorned into the Ring, and we know from the current thread that in those days the High Security Sector (now between the Green Light District and the Sects Sector) was the one just beyond Restaurant Row. So the sector with the boardwalk must have originally been the next beyond High Security.

As the text has hitherto stood, the next beyond High Security (once we discount francis' sectors) would have been Alchemists' Row.

Which doesn't have a boardwalk.

See? We've skipped one!

So I'm writing it back in. We'll just assume our friend DVd was napping when the explorers went through it, and so neglected to describe it where he should have.

The sector between Sects and Alchemists' Row was a small, recreational one known as Midway. It was a bit run-down, being the only fun one in an area of the Ring devoted to more serious concerns. Most of its patrons were from the industrial sectors when the workers there had an odd evening or weekend off. The people in the Sects sector were too busy devoting themselves to their devotions (or perhaps their own plumbing) to pay heed to the secular, sacriligious pursuits pursued in their neighboring sector.

Midway did have a nice boardwalk just in back of the beach, and a few casinos behind that, then a street or two with names from the game of "Monopoly," and finally, against the southern Ringwall, an old military airstrip with American and Japanese planes from World War II. These were used for charter flights out over Lake Lactatis to the Archipelago, or (in the other direction) out over the AddVenture itself.

The beach, well-positioned for sunbathing (or mist-bathing, since the Ring's "sunshine" was really luminous golden mist), gave access to Bazoom Lagoon, a small swimming lagoon beyond which lay an island reachable by ferry known as Cuney Island, which was an amusement park for people whose idea of amusement was somewhat more adult than you usually find in amusement parks. It wasn't part of the Archipelago, being an artificial islet near the ring rather than a volcanic one in the middle of the lake. A fishing pier off the beach near the eastern end of the sector helped shelter the lagoon.

So now you know.

Dabbler, D.J. and Lizzie didn't stop in this sector, as they were already long familiar with it.

Now let's restore some options.

  1. Now you can poke around the Industrial Sectors, if you want.

  2. Now you can go back to the Sects Sector, if you want.

  3. *Or if you want to, you can stick around Midway, maybe I'll get around to describing it in more detail eventually...
