Adama spent hours ("The instructions are in Sindarin!" he cried at one point) assembling the new computer, but he finally got it accomplished. He never noticed that one of the gealid blocks was a slightly different color, having been replaced before packaging by Meiou.
What Meiou didn't realize, however, is that the Indexing Computer has no power over the Backstage or the rules that control it. All of its external connections are input-only, and are used solely for gathering information. So adding a module to allow him to port to other authors' Suites was pointless, because it would have no effect on the Crays which really control things. To do what he wanted, Meiou would have to sabotage the Crays on the Admin level themselves.
So when Alaura tried to port in to Adama's Suite a few days later, she found herself standing out in the Level 10 hallway instead.
Now, if Meiou had thought to install a different part, and had added a secret transmitter, then he might have been able to use the link to spy on the insides of Author Suites instead....
