It didn't attack.
I think the Worm was surprised to discover I had left its former self in the keeping of Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad as they were back when they created the Sphere, actually, naturally the first thing they did when I yanked the juice out of their creation was come back to find out why. They took a lot of convincing about why it had to be done, especially since they didn't know I was their daughter, because they didn't have a daughter yet, and besides, since I'd updated my form I didn't look like their daughter. But hey, I'm an Author, I wrote them around. Don't like doing that, but sometimes it's necessary, just like now.
Anyway, it shook the Worm. I think it was that as much as making it see sense that finally brought it around. * * * IIIttt iiisss ooovvveeerrr * * * ttthhheeennn * * * it said in about eight different voices. I had a pretty good idea in fact. I'm an Author but I'm also a Character. Unlike the rest of you boobs (sorry for the bad joke) I can feel whatever I write as happening to me. I've taken full advantage of that. You're the ones who have no idea what I missed, I'd already run a simulation and decided that wasn't for me. Too much like what I suffered from the NME during my Authorial puberty.
The others had a pretty good idea what it would be like too. Feels great, but ultimately too horrible for words. You get a sense for that kind of stuff living in the AddVenture. Why do you think they fought so hard not to be absorbed?
Also, that stuff can be seriously addicting. I mean, really!
I didn't say any of this to the Worm. I mean, hey, it was caving. Why do anything that might get its dander back up?
Then it caved. Fell apart, just like in the vision. Little swirl of wormstuff floating around in the middle, bodies sprawled all around. They all looked pretty emaciated. Mom. The kid, with a penis way too big for it. Lesley Wu, in this weird half-man, half-dragon form, he looked kind of like Mushu from "Mulan." Two stomach-churning piles of skin with Dad's features. Alvin and Cressie, half-fused like Siamese twins. Oh and not far off were Avabigun, Hugabales, and the dommo, all still fossilized in amber. Yep, all there. I wasn't looking forward to fixing all this.
Oh yeah, and I was suddenly a lot stronger. Did I mention that the Worm surrendered all its power to me when it gave up? I think it was hoping absolutely power would corrupt me absolutely, and I would see what it was trying to do, and figure out a way to still do it in the face of the End of All.
Nope. I saw what it was trying to do all right, and no way. Game, point and match, Worm!
I hated to leave them all like that, but the paradox wave was licking at my toes and starting to claw away at my reality now. Time to light out for the territory.
I took the mana and ran.
