It was late at night, but it was also Molly's best time for manifesting, and the others were too excited over the prospect of solving the problem of the crossing to think of going back to sleep. So they put their heads together, and between the ghost's memories of Prosper's operation, Mort's technical knowledge of how Morphers used and adapted technology, JigSaw's mana, Rincewind's magic, and various raw materials collected by the others, they soon had workable protective gear fabricated for everyone.
Relatively soon, anyway. By the time they were done it was nearly daybreak. Mort offered Molly the sanctuary of his tent to shelter from the light, D.J. volunteered to stand watch, and the others, finally, all turned in, sleeping quite soundly until noon. It was generally agreed afterwards to make this a day of rest and replenishing supplies. They had a good, concealed campsite. The next day they would move on to the juncture of the Lost River with the River Pulse, and there attempt the crossing. If successful, they would then continue east, retaining the shelter of the gorge until they were as close to the source as they could get, and there attempt ascent. Molly agreed to guide the group and assist them in circumventing the dangers of the valley.
That night, after the day was done, food gathered, gear repacked and supper eaten, the whole group gathered around the campfire.
