Welcome, !4`^` and 94^!=, pulsed !2)4(7 (or Devito) in grave reply to Diana. I too am honored. And I perceive that 94^!= already nurtures a new burning. Have you yet conceived its coding?
Have I named it yet, he means, Sindy thought, doing the mental gymnastics to translate !2)4(7's concepts into those with which she was familiar. (Somehow she sensed !2)4(7 was the Spite equivalent of a male.) Not yet, she responded.
Then if I might be so bold, I would propose you consider incorporating the auspicious * when you do resolve its coding, in honor of the work in which you have helped this cycle.
Sindy pulsed her thanks, knowing * was a concept of high regard among Sprites, representing as it did their own form. Less so, perhaps, in human thinking, in which it would be represented as something closer to 'R.'

Sindy expected Diana to refuse politely, but she accepted. Sindy was confused--wouldn't this delay their progress?
She moved closer to the Amazon as !3)4(7 flared away before them, and they coasted in his wake. Why did you accept? she asked. Aren't we in a hurry?
We're Sprites, remember? Diana told her -- though in their current mode of communication she rendered "Sprite" as 9&*4(29. We must do as Sprites do. Their Work is their life, and even touring through the Bands--or, as we intend, progressing to the other end of the sector--we will be expected to pass segments of time in their work iterations. That's what tours are for, to give Sprites who have not yet found their niche in the Work an opportunity to get a taste of all the work.

It appears that with Sprite form comes the Sprite mindset and instincts. You would know it too, if you delved deeply enough into your thought pattern.
That was so, Sindy realized, and with that realization came a new concern. What if the Sprite mindset overcame their own? Would they become lost in a new life and purpose here, forgetting their friends and mission?
Briefly, she had felt herself safe here. Now, renewed dread clasped itself about her core....
