Jim sighed. He was going to have to spend time here, it appeared, and even then this witch couldn't do anything about his female problems. Still, the shorter the better.
"Fine...I'll do what you want. Let's just do the short contract and get me fixed up faster."
"Honey, don't you want to know what-"
"No...whatever is shorter is best. I just need to get back and see if I can fix the rest of my problems there."
The witch looked a little grumpy at being upset, then a slow smile dawned. She flipped through some heavy tomes on her desk and summoned others to float over from the bookshelves. She apparently found what she wanted, and smiled largely.
"It appears there is a six month experiment I can perform for a local research guild. The magic is untested and requires a test subject, and I'll think you'll fit in just fine," she flipped the book around and pointed to a blank. "Just sign there, and we can get started."
Jim quickly picked up a large quill and roughly scratched his name on the line. The witch grinned and signed on another line. In a sudden flash, the book disappeared.
She stood, "Follow me and we'll get you set up. We'll start work tomorrow, then." She led Jim upstairs to a small room in the tower. It had a bed, dresser, washstand and window. "Make yourself at home. I'll fix some dinner and you can get some sleep. Tomorrow, we'll start the research."
Jim finally asked, "What is the research?"
The witch grinned.
