BSV: JigSaw's Bombshell

Unending BE - episode 336897

Immediately upon seeing D.J., JigSaw's depression lifted. "Hey, Deej!" she called. "What brings you to visit me in my lonely exile?"

"Hunger," D.J. replied, heading towards her with an avid eye for the sandwiches. "Mind if I join you?"

Love you to, JigSaw thought, but left it unuttered. She knew D.J. wouldn't appreciate the crack, and was too tired to enjoy baiting her. Her current misery was making her almost sensitive. "Dig in," JigSaw said. "I've more than enough."

It wasn't really true -- she had planned to eat it all. But the company was worth the sacrifice.

"Thank you," murmured D.J., helping herself to two of the sandwiches and immediately attacking them. "How's your assignment going?" she asked between mouthfuls.

JigSaw's face fell. "Not good. I keep screwing up, an' the boss, an old broad named May Terdi who's a holdover from the resort days, is too nice about it. I think she may be angling for a date, an' I'm not sure I can bring myself to go out with someone who sounds like she belongs with DonkeyShit...."

In spite of herself, D.J. laughed. "So there is something human you wouldn't hump?" she asked.

"Hey I'm not that hard up, or maybe I am, but really she's not my type even if I do swing both ways now. I just keep getting sick whenever I think of it."

"Are you sure that's not morning sickness?"

"Hm, mebbe, 'cause come to think of it I keep getting sick when I don't think of it, too. Say, Deej--"

"No, JigSaw," said D.J. firmly. "If I wasn't tempted when Lizzie was gone, you can bet I won't go for it now. Besides, I've been feeling under the weather myself."

"No, no, it's not that," JigSaw protested, while wishing it could have been. "It's just there's something I keep trying to tell you an' Dabbler about, an' you keep not listening. You see--"

D.J. rolled her eyes and interrupted. "Look, Jig, unless it's vital intelligence on Meiou Bunny or something--"

"Yeah, that's it."

"What?!?"

"That's it," JigSaw repeated. "He left me this message when he lit out, on account of us being buddies an' all." (Lovers too, but there was no need to go into that.)

"Why didn't you mention this to Credenso and Alvina?" D.J. demanded, the ice in her tone thickening with each successive word. "T, JigSaw, they already distrust us, do you want to have us--"

"Hadn't gotten it yet, it was a time-release sort of thing. An' when it did come I figured they'd think I'd withheld it or something, so I thought I should talk to you or Dab before doing anything."

D.J. sighed. "Well, there's merit in that, I suppose. So what's the scoop? What's Meiou up to?"

"Well, he heard all that talk about the mana cannon an' got the idea that was the main problem, so he figured the best way to get back on our good sides was to go take it out--"

"What? Without mana? Without intelligence, even?"

"Hey I know you think he's an idiot, but he's plenty smart--"

"Spy-type intelligence, JigSaw. Fool! To jeopardize all of us on a whim lie that--!"

"We haven't heard the mana cannon all day, have we?" persisted JigSaw stubbornly.

"You don't seriously think he had anything to do with that, do you? I mean, the way that thing would be guarded he wouldn't have a prayer of approaching it -- not without his powers, and they--"

"He had a Remote."

  1. *That stopped her!
