Harry took a defensive posture, katana at the ready, as she shouted to D.J. “C’mon, hold it together! This isn’t a good time to fall apart!” Noting how D.J. wasn’t taking this to heart, he muttered over one shoulder… “Well? Any ideas, ghost?”
“Decapitation’s the classical method of killing a zombie…” the ghostly image of Zorlond said. “But considering the sheer number of them, retreat might be a better option…”
The girl-image shook her head, as he emphatically answered, “No way am I leaving mdghtr inthr…” The last words were oddly garbled. Had D.J. been more aware of things, she might have noticed how Harry had clearly mouthed the words ‘my daughter’, but the girl had mouthed something entirely different…
“D.J.? Any ideas?” Zorlond turned to her, noted her expression… “D.J., calm down, please, we need you here and aware.” Indicating the approaching mass, he continued. “Whoever they are… were… those are just empty shells now. The people are gone. Please, don’t join them…”
D.J., still fighting the urge to scream, looked down at the pistol in her hand as if it was something ugly and alien. Slowly, she looked back up, started to raise it and take aim…
