"What?" shouted Rick. "I have to be a girl?"
"Its our best chance, Rick my boy. This paper says Jessica Muldoon, after her fiance's attempted murder, lived with her friend and co-worker Colleen Evans for three weeks before returning to her own home. Of everyone who could have been involved with Jessica, she will be the closest. Our best bet for world supremacy. Jessica Muldoon needs to die in 1939, or there could be disasterous consequences."
"Couldn't you just install me into her crazed fiance while he attempts the murder and let me do the job properly?"
"Rick, thats too risky. How do you know you would be able to succeed where he failed? And besides, even while you remain conciously yourself, the personality of your host tends to bleed through a bit. Think of the consequences of an insane man bleeding through and affecting you. It could be disasterous. We need you to succeed. This is our best chance."
"I guess I don't have much choice, do I, doctor?"
"No."
After some hours of Dr. Wu programming the exact destination for Rick into the machine (the parameters required were mind boggling), Rick finally was hooked up and went flying into the past.
Immediately after Rick's body fell limp, Wu unplugged it from the machine.
------
Suddenly, Rick was outdoors. He was standing in front of a front door to a small house. A quick check, and he quickly realized he, or rather she, was indeed a woman.
She was weareing a modest navy blue dress. His waist tapered down to his waist, and then widened a bit at the butt and hips. The skit came down to her knees. Below that, she could see smooth, soft-looking legs coming down to two blue low-heeled shoes. Most attention grabbing, were the breasts. They were of medium size, but Rick could still feel them. And he could definately see them pushing out, despite being safely concealed behind the modest outfit.
Rick looked up at the sun, and realized it was about noon-time. As she did, she felt some hair swing around. Grabbing it with her petite hands, she brought it in front of her face. It was a very dark brown, of medium length, coming down to just above her shoulders.
Well, I'm a chick. Best get this over with quickly.
Get what over with? He wasn't really going to kill her best buddy, was he? Doubts lingered. Quickly, she weighed his options once again for what seemed like the millionth since Dr. Wu had suggested his evil plot - world domination, or Jim? The choice seemed obvious, no?
Rick quickly shook off her doubt and, finding a key on her person, proceeded to enter what had to be her house.
Suddenly the smell of grilled cheese sandwiches filled her nostrils. The only food Jim knew how to make besides cereal and microwive popcorn. But no! Rick would not be distracted. She would end this! The power would be hers! Rick quickly followed her nose to the kitchen, from where she heard voices. A melodious feminine one and a deeper male one.
Shit! Jim's not alone?
As he approached what she presumed to be the kitchen, she overheard the conversation. The woman - Jim - was talking.
" - enough about that, Professor. Lets talk about something else. How was that presentation of yours that night?"
"Oh," said the male voice, "It was not so good. Being late was a bad thing. And while they amused themselves with my presentation, I'm afriad most waved it off as fanastic and impossible. I am convinced time travel is possible! I just can't get past the details. I fear I never will succeed, and my work will be for nothing...."
Double shit! thought Rick, Some dude who is close to inventing time travel!? Dr. Wu was right about the urgency...
The male voice continued, "I'm just afraid my works will end up like Professor Garibaldi, and become another laughing stock. The unlearned mind probably would think time travel to be just as, if not more, impossible than those insane physical transformations Garibaldi thinks he could induce. He says with just a little funding, his work could be put into action. If I were to lose my funding like he has, I don't know what I would do!"
Rick finally decided to make her presence known. She simply walked into the kitchen - it was her house, right?
"Hello...Jessica?" she said tentatively, shocked by hearing a pleasing female voice. Then she realized she was looking at the most beautiful girl she had seen in her life. Or, what could be - 'Jessica' was dressed in unflattering, almost tomboyish looking clothing. She was sitting at a table with an older, greying man with a sloppy beard. They were eating grilled cheese sandwiches.
"Oh, hello Colleen," said the blonde woman, Jim, "How was rehearsal? You remember Professor Steinwick, don't you?"
