SRU/Ranma: Replacement

"Soun Tendo," explained Genma, "is an old family friend. We promised to marry our families to each other. But sadly, he's childless."

"Does that mean I get to avoid this stupid family deal you're tryin' to tell me about, old man?"

Genma slapped Ranma. "No, son. We will have to make the ultimate sacrifice...."

"Oh, really?"

Genma tossed a bucket of water on Ranma, changing him into a girl, and making his hair red, at least if you believe in anime colors. "Soun Tendo has no children, but he's a widower. This means he has no living wife. I just happen to have a son who can be a woman. The only way to join our families is for you, Ranma, to marry Soun Tendo and bear his children."

"I thought ya said 'we' have to make the ultimate sacrifice, old man. Sounds like it's me who you want to sacrifice in this crazy plan."

"We, you, what's the difference? We're all part of the same family, anyway."

1. Ranma gets married (or at least engaged) to Soun, while Soun is unaware that Ranma was born a guy (there must have been some history changes so he never knew that baby Ranma was male).
2. Ranma gets married (or at least engaged) to Soun. Soun knows that Ranma was born a guy, but goes through with it anyway. He figures it's enough that Ranma is a girl now, and besides there's this waterproof soap, magic ladle, wishing sword, etc. he might be able to get to keep Ranma one sex for long enough to have children.
3. Ranma thinks about her history to see if she knows a way out. Perhaps she can lie and say she can't marry Soun because she's already engaged to that Ukyou boy. (Ranma doesn't know that Ukyou's really a girl and that he really is engaged to her, but will probably find out pretty soon, especially if Genma admits it.)
4. Comes the first few days of school. Ranma decides that being engaged to Kunou is better than being engaged to Soun.
5. Ranma's mother shows up earlier than in the normal history and says that for Ranma to be a wife is not manly. She'll divorce Genma and marry Soun instead, to keep up the family honor.
