"Two brains are better than one, they say, so I guess that eight brains ought to be better than four," one of the "other" Sharons - whom I'll call Sharon 5 - said. "Let's get together and try to work out what's going on."

"Sounds good to me," Sharon 2 said. "But first we ought to examine each others' rooms, just in case we can spot any differences between them. It doesn't seem likely, but you never know."

1. Sure enough, the rooms are identical, as far as they can tell.
2. It turns out that the rooms are subtly different.
