It was a form of role play where the individuals involved really got into whatever it was that they would be wearing the outfit for. In some cases, this would allow the girl or woman wearing it to live out a fantasy, or change their lives with some sort of clothing that would shift them onto a new life path. Now, this wasn't to be taken lightly, as those sorts of manipulations would stay with a girl, and would leave her in this new path, automatically behaving in the way that one would expect for someone dressed as she was.
For the part of the maid uniforms, this came about with a realization that a servant had to have some certain... set rules about them. No matter what, or who, the woman in question might have been, she would have been expected to behave as a proper maid should. That would mean that a business executive would be made to be properly submissve to her master, even if he'd been her subordinate only a little while earlier. Some uniforms were more professional than others, but they did have the sexual desire going, so that someone who had been totally into boys would have obediently attended to her mistress' passions. And for them, this would be right and proper.
Still, no matter how the fantasy part would run, there was still one important concern, and that was actual ability. That wasn't to say that they would be expected to be having 'special skills'. Rather, they would be needing to have the proper abilities so that they could support their master as he might need. A clutz who could trip and fall, dropping her bucket and mop on her head might be cute, but it wouldn't exactly make for a stable and comfortable home.
As a result, the skills of a proper and competant maid would be allowed to slide right into the wearer's being. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, and shopping were all parts of what was going to be needed, and those skills were taking up residence in the shapely young women who'd had their make overs... even if Akane wasn't exactly a great choice for cooking. But becoming the best at everything wasn't the important thing. No, what they were needing was a chance to become useful and wanted by their Master, and that was what they were going to get.
Of course, in their current states, they might not have minded as the uniforms affected them, while:
