"Oh?" Suzie said. Why would Jim (if that was who it was) bother coming over to her place just to tell her about some dream? Not that she wasn't glad to see him, of course.
"Yeah. Say, are you going to keep me standing out here on the doorstep? Wake up, little Suzie, and let me in."
"'Little'? That's a good one." As she opened the door, she suddenly found that she could remember having weighed herself that very morning. The needle had stopped right on the 300 pounds mark. Not much more than 7 months ago she had weighed only half that and been no more than slightly chubby. But then she had discovered that she was pregnant with twins. Telling herself that she was eating for three had made it much easier to give in to her cravings for lots and lots of food, and her weight had begun to shoot up.
Back in the living room, Jim(?) sat down on one end of the rather shabby three-person sofa, and Suzie sat on it as well, taking up the remaining two-thirds of the space. It groaned in protest, but had evidently been sturdily built. The tee-shirt, which was all that she had had time to fling on, had ridden up perilously close to crotch level as she sat, but she knew she had no need to be modest in front of Jim.
