Helen counted three spaces, and stopped her piece on a blue space. Curious, she drew a blue card and read it aloud. "Give the player sitting to your left a kiss." She looked up at the rest of the family. Daniel and Cynthia both looked amused, while Mark looked a little embarrassed. She grinned. "Well, I think I can do that!"
She leaned over and gave Mark a peck on the cheek. A sudden jolt ran through her, and she lingered on the kiss for a few moments longer than she had intended. She felt strangely warm as she pulled away and gazed at her son in surprise.
"What?" Mark asked, looking a little uncomfortable.
"Nothing, dear. Nothing." Helen waved it off. "I just space out a bit." She watched as her son picked up the die and prepared to roll. Something seemed a little off. She felt like turning away, yet she felt a subtle urge to keep her eyes on her little boy. He certainly has grown up, she thought. Though the tone of her thought made her feel like she was just covering for something.
Oh well. Maybe it just meant she was tired and needed to go to bed early.
