The door opened once more, and the concubines all looked up to see their lord and master Sebastian enter. Edith, Allison and Becca all remained on their knees and turned toward him. Daniella, still holding Mary-Kate by the hair, slid off her throne and onto her knees as well. She forced the newcomer into a full kowtow, pressing Mary-Kate's forehead into the stone floor.
"Ah," Sebastian said, looking down at Mary-Kate. "I was told that my new concubine was visiting. Tell me, Mother, how do you find her?"
"Adequate, my son," Daniella replied coolly.
Sebastian nodded. Coming from his mother, that was significant praise. He had lost track of the number of times that she considered his new concubines such failures that she would kill them for the amusement. Not that he cared. He considered his mother an excellent judge of character in these matters.
"Did you introduce Mary-Kate to any of your toys yet?" Sebastian asked.
"No, my son. Not yet."
