The following listing aims to be a reasonably comprehensive listing of storylines set in the BE AddVenture's "Backstage," conceived as the setting from which ordinary AddVenture threads are generated.

As first seen, the Backstage was envisioned as a venue in which characters from various AddVenture threads took breaks between episodes and discussed their storylines. In this venue the characters appeared more or less as actors in the threads in which they appeared. Later concepts of the Backstage showed this "First" or "Original" Backstage to be just part of the Backstage as a whole, which also housed avatars of the AddVenture authors and BEA administrators, various support and entertainment facilities for Authors and Characters alike, and, in short, a whole behind-the-scenes world in which any and all denizens of the AddVenture can interact, with its own rules, policing entities and government, as well as some very serious hazards.

Of the threads indexed below, some are typical AddVenture trees, branching explosively and then petering out, while others are coherent stories with beginnings, middles, and endings. There are also various combinations and permutations of these two models. The data in these threads was initially compiled from Adama's storyline codes list and the episode lists of the authors most prominent in the writing of the Backstage threads, augmented with additional information encountered as storytrees were run on each. It is likely to be incomplete. Corrections and additions will be incorporated from time to time, and are invited from users of this resource. Entries are ordered by the date of the earliest episode in each thread. This arrangement is intended to help clarify the chronological relationships of the Backstage threads, which are notoriously difficult to unravel. Unfortunately, it won't be of much assistance in regard to the occasional retrospective threads, which are set in past eras of Backstage history and wholly written well after the events they cover. I have done my best to identify such retrospective threads as such, while indicating their relationships with other threads in the notes.

Each entry includes:

1. a full title for the thread (usually from the episode titles, though occasionally supplied);
2. a standard abbreviation for the thread (again ordinarily utilized in the episode titles);
3. the pseudonym of the author initiating the thread;
4. the episode and date with which the thread began;
5. thread completion status ("complete" in this context meaning the main storyline or a thread thereof was brought to a conclusion; even "complete" threads usually contain open options); and
6. a link to a tree of the episode with which the thread began. (A caution: as the treeviews sometimes erroneously show backlinks as open options, a number of trees are misleadingly truncated. So use the trees with caution; they don't always indicate everything that has been written!)

Occasional additional links after entries in the listing are to subsidiary information on threads that have been analyzed more thoroughly. Entries with these features are highlighted in Red. Ordinarily, these will consist of

1. a title page (tp) providing an introduction and notes to the story,
2. a table of contents (tc) providing a complete list of episodes in the thread in best reading order (since the vagaries of threading often render any natural reading order incomplete), and
3. a character and place guide (cpg) detailing persons and locales appearing in the thread, often with comments.

At present, very few threads have been analyzed to the extent that a tc or cpg are possible, and it is likely that a majority never will be. In particular, those threads that initially branched vigorously and were then abandoned are less susceptible to such treatment than other more narrowly-directed storylines. So, regard these features as a bonus where they appear.

Note: occasionally you may find that the author credited with a thread seems "wrong." The most likely reason for this is that some author other than the one initiating the story later took it over or in some similar fashion became the writer most associated with it. Sorry, but my policy is to credit the initiator, who isn't necessarily the person who's written the most episodes. Much, of course, depends on what episode is pegged as the beginning of the thread, which can be subjective. Reasonable people could well disagree on exactly where the natural beginning of a particular storyline falls. All I can say is I've judged the material as best I could, and indexed accordingly. The storytrees provided for each thread should facilitate such efforts. You can use the existing tp, tc and cpg for the Random Sample thread as models, or devise your own formats.

Also welcome are new entries for any threads missed by this index, corrections to data provided, and constructive criticism.
