One day there was an ad posted in your favorite comic book (or manga); and no it wasn't for sea monkeys or x-ray glasses. The ad explained that they were inviting readers to create new female characters, with fantastic prizes for the characters they chose to feature in their books. All you had to do is submit a picture of your character along with a few notes about their origin, backstory, and motivation. They had prizes for best hero, best villain, best supporting character, (an odd one) best love interest for a hero or villain.
There was some fine print about writers and artists retaining the right to alter your creation however best fits their narative.
They didn't mention the part about people transforming into their original characters.
