Astrid stomped through the knee-high snow towards the forge. If he knew what was good for him, he would still be at the forge. It had been several weeks since the victory over the Red Death and they were still getting use to one another. The seasons were beginning to turn and winter had arrived with a vengeance. The village had received approximately ten feet of the white stuff in the last week. The only reason the village wasn’t buried was the strong wind from the ocean scouring most of the snow from the village. It was the first ‘nice’ day in over a week and she was determined she was going to see Hiccup.
She had already searched his home and the great hall for him without success. The only resident at Hiccup’s house was a half a sleep Toothless and he hadn’t provided any answers. The strong ocean wind whipped the snowflakes around her. Snow had worked its way into her tunic and boots making her miserable. Her feet were already beginning to wrinkle in her wet boots.
She followed the shallow depressions of footsteps in the snow to the door of the forge. Smoke rose in a thin plume over the small building. Using the haft of her axe she beat on the door.
“Come in,” Hiccups muffled voice came through the door.
She gratefully opened the door and stepped inside. She slammed the door behind and was grateful for the warmth of the room. She quickly crossed the room and glared at Hiccup. “Where the Hel have you been? I have search the entire village for your scrawny butt!”
Hiccup was only a leather apron and a pair of worn wool hose. “Sorry, Gobber grabbed me to watch the charcoal fire.” Hiccup sheepishly responded. His head, neck, and arms were covered in a thin layer of soot. Small vertical lines were draw in the by sweat.
She made a point of ignoring him as she pulled off her gloves. She handed them to Hiccup without a word and began unlacing her leather boots. She then removed her damp cloak and thrust it a Hiccup. She then looked at him and said, “So where is Gobber?”
“I believe he was ice fishing with my dad,” Hiccup responded as he hung her clothes to dry. He then turned to hug Astrid only to be stopped my flat palm against his chest.
“I am going to dry myself by the fire. Once I can feel my toes again, I will then choose how angry I am with you.”
