A rock? Milly Ashford scrunched up her face in a disappointed and confused stare. She examined the package again, food from home, a nice fat check…and a rock. Honestly, her father could be the most confusing man in the world sometimes; but it was eccentricities like these that had let the Ashford family maintain its status over the years.
Well that may have been a bit hasty, the Ashford family had fallen from grace a good number of years ago, ever since that one horrible day… Milly shook her head to get the images out of her mind. The Ashford family had lost a lot in the incident, but they still had a lot of capital. Enough to send their eldest daughter to Area 11 to the prestigious family academy. Besides, there had been a silver lining. Without the death of Empress Marianne she never would’ve gotten to meet Lelouch and Nunally, two close friends.
“Gifts from home Madame President?” Ah speak of the devil.
“Lelouch!” she began with a singsong voice. “Guess, what, I have?”
“Let me guess, your mothers fudge from home,” the boy responded, not the least big surprised by the presidents boldness.
“Correction, it’s Ms. Perry’s. She always made the sweets around the house remember?” Lelouch just laughed at the memory.
“Of course, how could I forget. Those were better days weren’t they?” he asked heading towards his private mailbox and unlocking it. The last sentence snapped Milly out of her bubbly attitude.
“Yeah…better days,” she sighed. Finding a single envelope in his box Lelouch took it out and slid it into his pocket before looking back at Milly.
“Don’t worry,” he said placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. Milly’s golden looks swayed in the sunlight at she looked over at him. It was amazing how fast he could read emotions. “You’ll make a fine head of the Ashford family one day. No matter what you decide to do. Whether it’s marry off in the nobility or…anything else.”
With that Lelouch began to stroll off, hands in pockets.
“Oh Lelouch,” Milly began again, in her singsong voice. “What’s in the letter? Off for a game of “chess” again?” The boy stopped dead in his tracks before turning to her with a sheepish look in his eyes.
“Heh, guess you caught me. Just don’t tell Shirley ok? She’ll have a fit.”
“You’ll break that girls heart one of this days if you’re not careful.” Milly replied leaning up against the wall, a teasing smile still written on her face.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it all under control,” Lelouch responded with a sly grin of his own.
“Right,” Milly said with an exasperated sigh. “Just have fun, and remember to bring Rivalz back in one piece.” Lelouch smiled and walked off. "I'll drop the fudge off at your house! Make sure Nunally gets some!" she yelled at him. Lelouch just extended one hand in the air in recognition as Milly turned her eyes up towards the lazy noonday sun. Clutching her fathers rock in her hand she whispered…
