The Geass Cult is the most formidable secretive organisation in the world. The majority of its members have access to strange supernatural abilities that make each of them a potentially terrifying living weapon entirely on their own. The end goal of this organisation is to unite humanity into a world without deception, without lies and without pain or suffering. A world where all are one and humanity will never ever change or dream again. For now their focus lies elsewhere. For now, their focus relies upon understanding the strange power that will allow this world to come to pass. For now, they research the formidable and baffling powers of the Geass.
Geass is the name given to a particular kind of power that can be granted to any person by an immortal being, usually in exchange for eventually taking the immortality from that same being unto themselves. In some cases there are other reasons to give a Geass, but one of the many interesting things about the Geass is that each and every single recorded Geass is every little bit as unique as the individual that took it. Each influences the mind in some way. Some can cause a particular emotion with eye contact. Others can assume control over another's limbs. Some can manipulate perception in a specific manner. Some can read thoughts or emotions, or instill specific thoughts within a target's mind. And there are so very many more. Each with their own inherent limitations. Each with their own weaknesses that can allow the knowledgable to overcome them. Each extremely dangerous to face in the hands of a seasoned and intelligent wielder.
The questions at the forefront of the Cult's thoughts were simple: Why are there so many different forms for a Geass to take? What causes a given person to have this kind of Geass instead of that kind? Is there any way to predict or manipulate the form a Geass will take before it is given? It can hardly be surprising that an unscrupulous organisation such as the Geass Cult would stoop to the lowest of the scientific lows and experiment upon children. How better to determine the differences than to put them all into different environments and observe their developing brains both before and after they acquire the Geass? How better to set up controls and contrasts? How better to find the answers that they seek?
Those with an ethical spine would surely have stood up and said "any other way but this."
Ah, but these subjects were more than lab rats to the Cult. Many of them would prove to be useful in other ways, and in particular would be trained to become assassins. Some would be wielded as battle axes, others as scalpels. All trained in this manner were just as deadly either way - or they died.
The current head of the Cult holds the appearance of a young boy, no more than ten years old. He is easily six times that apparent age and has the intelligence to prove it. His name is V.V. and he is an immortal with very few scruples and a strong determination to see the plan through to the end. Though his stature is small his power is not to be underestimated - one touch is all it would take to imprison his victims within a cage of their own memories and his capacity for healing from injury is impressive even among his own kind. His kind, it must be pointed out, are immune to the effects of all Geass.
Cunning. Ruthless. Powerful. And at the moment rather angry for reasons that will soon become apparent.
"What do you mean 'he escaped'?"
There was a part of the immortal boy, a very small part, that was indulging in the very human addiction to revenge. That part wanted the subordinate to be snarky in response. Say something like "By 'he' I refer to subject XXX, who, under your orders, is being held in indefinite suspension in a containment cell upon discovery of his Geass powers, with only you being permitted to access said cell. By 'escaped' I mean that he has somehow found a way to breach his containment and fled the facility, flipping us the bird as he went."
Because is he did reply with snark, if he did reply with the slightest hint of sarcasm… Oh, but there would be so much hell to pay!
In a rather wise move, the subordinate asked the question that had really been asked. "We believe he had been preparing for such an escape for some time," the assistant said. "None of our readers are allowed anywhere near him, of course, so it wasn't possible for us to tell either way. But the evidence is mounting in favour of a long preparation period. Yesterday's blackout served as the perfect opportunity."
"None of that matters for now," V.V. said. "He is to be killed. Immediately. Use whatever resources are deemed necessary, and wear as much protection for your eyes as you can get away with. Kill anyone he comes in contact with. Kill anyone they come into contact with. I do not need to remind you of his rare talent."
