The cry of a rooster being devoured by a snake caused Tsukune Aono to rub his eyes and sit up in his bed. Here he was, enrolled in a school for actual, no-kidding, vicious, rip-out-his-spleen and floss-with-his-spine, human-hating monsters. Somehow he had managed to survive his first day well enough; one of his classmates had only nearly killed him. Surely the rest of the school year would be just as much of a breeze.
With an unusual amount of energy, he hopped out of his bed and walked over to the window of his dorm room to peek outside. Headstones... skeletal dead trees... blasted grey earth cloaked in a fog that never lifted... Sure enough, the events of the previous day hadn’t been some crazy dream. He knew that already. It couldn’t have all been a nightmare, because last night he had experienced a different crazy dream.
The doors of Youkai Academy opened as he approached. Inside a young woman with dark cherry-red hair pulled into a long ponytail is there waiting for him, dressed in a full butler’s uniform with slacks, a suit coat, and a black necktie pulled tightly at her neck. She was short and slender, but her slight curves were enough to betray her gender.
“Thank you for coming. It has been a long time since we were last open for business.”
The school was entirely empty except for the butler and himself. Youkai Academy was already a creepy enough place in the daytime, but here in his dreams the vacant, imposing halls were downright frightening. Tsukune’s guide walked ahead of him with her hands clasped together behind her, and in spite of his fear Tsukune followed at a normal pace. Eventually they reached his classroom, which the girl opened for him with her white linen gloves.
“Our selection is limited at the moment, but still, it is quite amazing you were able to procure such an exceptional treat on just your first day.”
As he stepped inside, Tsukune saw that the room was empty like the rest of the school. Within this barren class was one completely out of place object: a large cake in the shape of Moka’s rosary had been placed on top of her desk. The girl produced a kitchen knife, a fork, and small plate, then with precision produced a perfectly clean slice of the white-frosted dessert.
“I believe it to be strawberry,” she said, peering queerly at the red middle layer sandwiched between two layers of dark chocolate cake before offering the plate to Tsukune.
“Won’t this hurt Moka?” he asked, even as he found himself accepting the plate and cutting into it with his fork.
“Of course not sir,” she replied, gesturing to the cake on the desk, which was once again whole. “You are only enjoying that which was freely given.”
Tsukune tried to make sense of that cryptic reply, but the last thought that went through his mind before he woke up was that the cake indeed tasted like strawberries.
Tsukune couldn’t recall the last time he woke up with a dream so fresh and clear in his memory. He also couldn’t remember the last time he woke up feeling this good; revved up and ready to tackle the day, wrestling it on the ground until it promised not to take his lunch money for a change. And he definitely couldn’t remember the last time he woke up with a stream of ephemeral pink light slowly flowing through one of the walls straight into his chest, like a tiny river of rose-colored gas that trickled like water through the air.
He stepped to the side, did a little dance, and even tried standing on his head. No matter where he moved, the stream followed him without fail. Passing his hands through the stream he felt absolutely nothing, and the flow itself was completely unaffected. The ghost-like energy was transparent, completely intangible, and came through the wall in the direction of the girls’ dorms.
And it was damned persistent. He went through what would become his morning routine at Youkai Academy: getting undressed, putting on a towel, saying “Good morning,” to those he passed on the way to the bathroom, turning on the shower faucet, panicking in disgust as he discovered he had chosen the swamp water stall, taking a very, very long shower in one of the normal stalls, and finally returning to his room to get dressed. In all that time, the mysterious pink flow never faltered. Nor did anyone else seem to notice the trail.
Yet by the time he was ready to leave for breakfast Tsukune found himself much more at ease with his curious new affliction. Odd though it may seem, it was actually fairly easy to forget about and overlook unless he thought about it. By the time he left the dorm, Tsukune’s thoughts were occupied with a much more pleasant subject: the cute pink-haired girl he had met yesterday.
“Tsukune!”
Speak of the devil, er... think of the vampire. Tsukune felt a very feminine pair of arms wrap around him from behind as he walked along the gloomy path to the school. Yesterday he had been ready to throw in the towel in order to save his neck, but the thought of having his impulsive, harsh farewell being his last words to Moka brought him back. And now the possibility of getting to know her better gave his life real purpose for the first time... for however short his life ended up being in this school for born killers.
“Mornin, what’cha doing?” Moka asked. Breaking the hug, Tsukune turned to face her and discovered not only her radiantly beautiful face beaming at him but the source of the ghostly flow as well.
“Um Moka, do you mind if I ask you an odd question?”
A mischievous twinkle in her eye was the only warning he received. With almost the same speed her white-haired other self had displayed the previous evening, Moka pressed herself up against the poor boy. She hesitated for a moment in anticipation; her lingering breath on Tsukune’s throat causing him to shiver. Then with a delighted squeak her lips found his neck and breakfast was served. Mere moments later she pulled back with a contented smile. “Sure Tsukune, what’s on your mind?” she asked.
Tsukune swallowed before speaking. “Have you by any chance noticed some sort of pink energy flowing out of your chest and into mine?”
“My chest?” Moka asked innocently.
“Yeah, from right there,” he added, pointing to the spot. Only then did he realize the energy was coming from Moka’s heart. He also became aware of where in the female anatomy the heart was located, and as a bonus just how many fellow students had stopped and were now staring with jealous hatred at him.
“No, I don’t see anything,” Moka replied, faintly blushing after looking down to see where Tsukune was pointing.
“Um, can we continue this conversation elsewhere?” he asked, mentally adding ‘before a pitchfork-wielding angry mob breaks out!’
As the lovey-dovey pair made their way into the woods surrounding the school, one of their observers had to move quickly to keep from being noticed. It was frankly insulting that she would have to skulk around like a stalker, but this hard work would be worth it in the end when she stole Moka Akashiya’s new boyfriend and defeated her in a battle of seduction in front of the whole school. With this upstart in her appropriate place, the Youkai Academy Harem Transformation Plan would go off without a hitch!
Of course, with her succubus abilities she could just march right up to the doomed couple and take the wimpy looking boy under her power. She just... didn’t feel like it right now. It would be much more fun to take her time and wait until she could get him alone to turn him into putty. Prudent too. The fact that she chose not to challenge Moka now had nothing to do with how powerful and scary vampires were, perish the thought!
For now though, the pair showed no sign of separating anytime in the near future. Perhaps it would be best to confront Tsukune Aono later. Kurumu sighed and turned to leave.
“Fooooound you!”
Kurumu whirled around, only to realize she wasn’t the one being spoken to. In the clearing where Tsukune and Moka stood together, a third figure now stood across from them. It looked like one of the academy’s janitorial staff, but the predatory grin on her face had promise. Maybe it was worth sticking around a little while longer...
Neither Moka nor Tsukune knew quite what to make of the newcomer. She, or possibly he, was short, and dressed in a dark-green, academy janitorial uniform that was several sizes too large. Her arms were too short for the sleeves, causing the ends of both to flop around. The large, matching painter’s cap on her head was large enough to cover her face down to her nose, if not for the mass of disheveled, off-white hair that fell to her shoulders. The face beneath the hair was just as wild and untamed as her hair: a small but sharp-looking nose, a grin that was open just wide enough to show a set of jagged yellow teeth, and two almost comically large eyes that were just not quite moving together.
“I knew it... I knew I smelled something wonderful last night.” The janitor closed her eyes and tilted her head up in order to take a long, deep inhale through her nose. “Smells just like... strawberries.”
“Yes well... that’s nice,” Tsukune said, holding Moka while taking a few steps back. “I’m sure the cafeteria has plenty of fruit this morning to choose from.”
“Oh, no sense in walking all the way over there... I’m going to feed right here!” As the girl spoke her skin began to change from the color of chalk to slate. Her torso bulked up and two spindly arms as long as the rest of her body shot out of her sleeves. Most grotesquely, her mouth opened all the way up to her ears, and both students recoiled from the sight of her sickeningly pink, bump-covered tongue.
With a gacking sound, the janitor’s mouth unhinged to nearly ninety degrees and her absurdly long tongue shot out. Tsukune only had time to blink before it forcefully connected with his cheek, sending him sprawling against a tree behind him.
“Tsukune!” Moka cried as their assailant’s tongue retracted back to her. “Leave Tsukune alone this instant,” she demanded, moving to shield her new-found friend.
“Moka, get out of here! I’ll hold her off!” Tsukune said, finding his way to his feet.
“Heehee, yes, run along little girl! Your boyfriend is the only morsel I’m after today.” Once again her maw gaped open and her tongue rocketed out. This time Moka was in the path of the strike, but right before reaching her the organ made a sudden left-hand turn and curved around her body, striking Tsukune painfully in the side.
Moka made a grab for the tongue, but it pulled back before she could touch it. “She’s too fast!” With her vampiric powers sealed away in her rosary, she was just a normal girl. But she still charged the monster with a righteous fury. Her outstretched palm probably would have done nothing more than sting the beast, even had the janitor not leapt onto a nearby branch, from where she pounded Tsukune with another tongue attack.
“Heehee, even strawberries can use some tenderizing.”
This time the boy found his strength giving out as he tried to lift himself from the ground. It made no sense; why was the monster think he smelled of strawberries? Granted, he was happy the creature was not trying to harm Moka, but at some point even the most selfless person has to spare a moment to consider their own survival.
“Tsukune, get up,” begged Moka as she knelt by his side. He looked up at her face then saw it, the rosary suspended from her neck: the sole reason he was not turned into a pile of goo the day before. Weakly he reached up to take hold of it and pulled, except this time nothing happened. The chain refused to let go of the cross, just like any normal necklace would behave.
‘Why won’t it come off?’ Tsukune wondered. Was it because Moka herself was in no danger?
“It looks like it’s up to you then,” Moka said, in a strangely fervent tone.
“U-Up to me? But I’m just a-”
“You can beat her, Tsukune! I Have Faith in You.”
Tsukune did not have any time to process what Moka’s unusual declaration meant, because the moment it was spoken the forgotten about flow of pink energy that ran from the vampire to the human flared up from a lazy river to a raging torrent. Tsukune didn’t need to worry about finding the strength to stand as his body was lifted into the air and assumed the outstretched vitruvian man pose. The two girls (three if counting the villain) watched as the puny human’s muscles inflated from non-existent to prime beef in only a few moments.
The raging flow between Moka and Tsukune continued unabated, even after Tsukune’s feet were lowered onto the ground once more. His previously brown hair had changed to the same color white Moka’s had the previous evening. As he opened his eyes and grinned at his opponent, his new blood-red eyes and sharp fangs were revealed as well.
Far from being startled by this new development, the janitor’s face turned even more wild in unmitigated glee. “Yes! That scent, that aroma! I’ve never tasted anything like it! I must have it!”
“This girl is the only one who will be taking a bite out of me today,” Tsukune said with a level of confidence he never before possessed. “You’re welcome to try your luck though.”
Her tongue shot out again, this time aiming to snap the previously frail student’s neck with brute force. The vampiric strength granted by Moka was more than sufficient to counteract the monster’s speed, and the creature knew it was in trouble the moment the white haired boy snatched her tongue out of the air with his bare hand.
“That the best you can do? Pathetic.” Putting his newfound muscles to work, Tsukune jerked hard on the tongue. There were only two possible outcomes; fortunately for the janitor the lesser of two evils won out and she found herself flying through the air towards the student, rather than having her tongue ripped clean out of her mouth.
Tsukune took a half-step back and put his weight on his front foot. “Realize your place!”” he growled as the incoming monster was greeted by a powerful kick to the midsection. Like a paddleball the wretched creature now found herself flying the other way, where a nettled bush broke her fall.
“Damn you! I’ll be back for you later Strawberry Man!” she cried, shifting back into her human form before running off towards the academy.
“Tsukune...”
Tsukune turned away from the fleeing villain and faced the girl who had indirectly rescued him again. The visible yet non-tangible connection between them was still working at full force, which explained why, in a detached way, he could feel the coldness of Inner Moka still clinging to his personality. But within him he felt a third force rising, one that was threatening to overwhelm both the Tsukune and Inner Moka identities.
He crossed the distance between himself and his stunningly beautiful classmate. The old Tsukune would never have dreamed of being this forward, but to the white-haired Tsukune this was second nature. He swept the girl into a firm embrace and felt any resistance from her disappear.
“Tsukune... be gentle...”
Tsukune knew instinctively there was only one way to relinquish the power he had borrowed from Moka. He had fed, and now in the act of returning what was lent he would feed a different kind of hunger. He wanted nothing more than to tear every scrap of clothing off her body and take his satisfaction his way. But with her last words and the thought of harming Moka, a small semblance of the old Tsukune was able to exert a bare minimum amount of control over his own actions.
He kissed the girl, and time stopped for one brief, glorious instant. The most coherent thought that went through the students’ minds was surprisingly the same: ‘Mmm, strawberries.’ When the world started up again, Tsukune broke the kiss, and lowered the very willing young woman to the ground. “As you wish,” he said. Despite her request and his promise, both lovers began shedding their clothes with a remarkable amount of urgency.
Nearby, a blue-haired succubus had no clue what just happened. How did that unremarkable, weak-looking boy transform into such a powerful, imposing, handsome, and confident creature? Was that his monster form, a vampire? But the vampire rumors around school had only mentioned Moka. If he was a vampire, why had it taken him so long to transform?
‘And what do I have to do to get some of that?’ Kurumu squirmed as she watched the two lovers take ‘gentle’ for a long walk in cement shoes off a short pier. She was a creature of lust, but even her dreams and plans were vanilla compared to the primal mating the two gorgeous being were engaged in on the ground in front of her.
She felt one of her hands reach for the ribbon at her neck while the other snaked down towards her needful wetness below. She couldn’t stay here, not unless she was willing to surrender herself to the sexual firestorm before her. And as thoroughly enjoyable as that would be, her goal was to dominate this school, not debase herself to the future prom king and queen.
Reluctantly, achingly, Kurumu tore her eyesight away from the wild lovemaking and made her escape. It took an amazing amount of willpower to keep from getting one final peek at Tsukune and Moka. But even had she risked one last look, one thing she would not have noticed was the faint, almost thread-like flow of purple energy now flowing from her heart into Tsukune’s. Far smaller than the pink ‘ghost flow’ coming from Moka, even before Tsukune’s change, the succubus’s fate was nonetheless now undeniably tied to his.
