Setup: This story is based on the TV show Stargate SG-1. In this show, humans have the same technology as they do now, except that a device called a Stargate has been unearthed. This is an ancient alien device, used to travel instantaneously to other Stargates. There are hundreds of these Stargates throughout the galaxy. Human teams of four, called SG teams, are sent routinely through the Stargate to explore.

The show is based on the lead of these SG teams, SG 1. They are led by Colonel Jack O’Neil, a retired air force colonel who came back to lead one of the teams with the top secret Stargate project. There is Major Samantha Carter, the leader of the world’s physicists who specialise in wormholes. There is Dr. Daniel Jackson, an archaeologist who is the expert of the ancient world and speaks fluent Go’auld. And last of all, there is Tuek, the former leader of the Go’auld Apophis’s Jaffa. He grew up as a Jaffa, and has a Go’auld symbiote within him, but is intensely loyal to SG-1.

There are three other major races that the SG teams encounter. One is the Asgard, which is a pacifist race almost advanced as the Ancients who built the Stargates, and they fly ships so powerful as to destroy others within minutes. In ancient Earth and throughout the galaxy, they represent the ancient Viking gods, as their names say: Thor, Frar, Loki, and so on. There are the Go’aulds, who are parasitic worms that enter a human host’s body and heal that body. These hosts are called Jaffa, and are the soldiers of the higher up Go’auld, who masquerade as gods with their advanced technology. They fly huge pyramid like ships, and on ancient Earth, they were Egyptian gods. Apophis, Nirrti, Osiris, Hathor, and the like. And then there are the Tokra, who are rebel Go’auld and Jaffa, who slowly commence a guerrilla campaign against the leaders of the Go’auld, the System Lords. Major Carter’s father, retired General Jacob Carter, is one of their top leaders.

And now, on with the story:

General Hammond, the major general in charge of the SG program at Cheyenne Mountain, walked into the main chamber of the base. The massive Stargate before him was dialling co-ordinates to another Gate in a distant part of the galaxy. It finished dialling the seven ideograms, and what looked like a blue liquid filled the ring. Hammond turned and saw SG-1 enter the chamber, armed with their usual weapons.

Nodding to the General, they turned and entered the blue mass, disappearing. The wormhole held until the team was on the other side of the other Gate, and then dissipated. Hammond turned to the control room. “Close the iris.” Behind him, what appeared to be a metal disk rolled into the way of the Gate, blocking it.

On the distant planet, Colonel O’Neil scanned the horizon of the planet with his binoculars. He saw nothing. He turned and gestured the rest of his team onwards. They ran forward through the desert on which they had come out of, Tuek holding his Jaffa staff weapon, the others holding their sub-machine guns and stolen Go’auld pistols called Zats which fired small blasts of electricity.

When they crested the dune they were climbing…
