"Do you really think I'm that stupid? I'm not some little kid. I know that magic doesn't really exist," Jim said.
"But I'm giving you the ring for free, so what does it matter?" the woman asked.
"You really believe that magic exists?" Jim asked, astonished that someone who looked like her could believe BS like that.
"Of course. I suppose you'll want a demonstration?"
"That would be nice, if it actually existed."
The woman put the gray mood ring on and pointed it in Jim's direction and said "Intense love for me." The gray stone on the ring flashed a rainbow of colors, then returned to normal.
"Hey, how did it do that?" Jim asked. referring to the weird light.
The woman just stood there and smiled. After a few seconds, she asked "How do you feel?"
"Normal. Why?"
"How do you feel ... about me?" she asked.
"Huh? I don't know ... I ..." Jim trailed off as a feeling for the woman suddenly became more pronounced. He knew what it was right away. It was love. Intense love. For this woman. Suddenly, he gazed at her lovingly.
"How do you feel about me, Jim?" she asked.
"I love you," he answered, no hesitation. "I love you so much. But ... I don't even know your name."
"It's Samantha," she said.
"That's a beautiful name," he said, moving closer to her. He wanted to kiss her and hold her so badly. She was his soul mate. He didn't know what he'd do if he ever lost her.
"Didn't you say you had a girlfriend?" Samantha asked.
"Huh? Oh, you mean Sharon? We're not dating anymore."
"Does she know that?"
"I'll tell her later."
"Tell her now. I want you all to myself. I don't want another girl around. Understand?"
"Okay," Jim said, taking out his cellphone. He dialed Sharon's number and heard her pick up.
"Jim? Are you getting ready for my birthday party to ..." she started, but was cut off by Jim.
"Sharon, it's over. I'm dumping you. I met someone else." Then he hung up and put the phone away. "So, where were we, Samantha?" he asked, looking at her so adoringly.
