I wake up on a bed in an unfamiliar building next to unfamiliar people that I do not recognize.
Who am I? How did I get here? And just whom are all these people staring at me?
I see a middle-aged overweight guy, a tall African-American man, a white woman, a Hispanic woman, and a short white guy.
The tall African-American man says to me, “Just say you know, Heather went out to attend her duties. But the rest of us are here, and I have helped recruit a newcomer.”
Frantically, I ask them, “Who are you? Who am I? Where am I? How did I get here?”
The middle-aged overweight man responds, “I’m Agent George Gordon, my partner is Cordell Melvins, she (the Hispanic lady) is Maria Sanchez, and the rookie (the short Caucasian man) is Danny Buffalo. The newcomer is Liz Barfield.”
I ask, “So who am I?”
George goes on to say, “You are James Hicks. You’re in enlisted in our agency program. Remember your badge? Here it is. Perhaps this will refresh your memory.”
Cordell smirks and goes on to say, “You are really stupid, you know that? Going out to a club to get hosed full of the amnesia body spray? Were you chasing ladies once again?”
I look at Liz, but my face draws a blank. I beamed at Liz instead to say, “I can’t say I know for sure.”
I ask both George and Cordell, “Just refresh me on our roles again?”
Cordell responds, “I’m now your boss, and George has been the boss of this agency. You, Maria, and Heather are ranked in a class below us, while Danny and Liz are ranked as rookie agents. But I feel those two could be stars in the future.”
Liz Barfield asks, “You told me that a Jeffrey Lemon is supposed to join our group. Who is he?”
George replies, “He was a veteran officer that was going to help me lead a team to go to the embassy. But our new mission is for us to confiscate those that have the Amnesia Body Spray, as that is a danger to our health.”
Cordell responds, “I’ve had a chat with George, and Jeff will no longer be joining us. He was previously ranked higher than you, but after talking it out with George, we feel it is best to cut ties with him.”
So I respond, “So that is that, I guess. Thanks for getting me back up to speed.”
George pats me on the shoulder, as he says, “Alrighty then. We’ll have you in here to be monitored for a few more hours, and get you back to speed. And then, you’ll be good to go, so that you can go with us out to the mission.”
As the team starts to walk away, Liz and I are the last ones in the room.
Something looks familiar about that Liz Barfield woman. I can’t recall why, but she kept fidgeting her fingers and kept looking nervous at me. Is she up to something? Does she know something that I don’t know?
I proceed to ask Liz, “So Liz, did anything happen that led me to getting knocked out by the Amnesia Body Spray?”
Liz replies, “The report says you were knocked out by a mysterious older gentleman at a club. That’s all I can say.”
I ask her, “Where you there?”
But Liz grabs a file to walk away along with the team.
