The phone rang, I got up and took the phone of the counter, and saw the ID “Mary Cooke” I said, she was a friend of my mothers, or I should say a friend of mine and now that I have my mother memories, it’s even weirder, both of “us” were friends in high school and also cheerleaders. I shivered, thinking about those false memories and picked up the phone.
“Mary how are you?” I said trying to sound enthusiastic. “I’m great Lin, how are you?” replied Mary. “Good, good, how’s Louis doing?” I said, asking how her son, my previous best friend was doing. “Good, how’s Michael doing? He looks like he has certainty blossomed lately” Continued Mary. You have no idea I thought, “He’s doing great, anything new with you” I said trying to get off the subject of my “son.” “Well in fact yes, I’m finally getting breast implants!” Mary said excitedly. Oh god, I don’t care I thought. “That’s great to hear!” I said. “I’m so happy, that I’m finally going to get a real set of guns” Mary said enthusiastically. Ugh, I don’t care about your boobs I thought. “Say Lin, are you every going to think about getting some of your own? Asked Mary.
Oh god, the last thing I need in this life is a set of boobs, I thought shivering at the idea. “Not really, it never crossed my mind” I said trying to sound uninterested. “Well, remember in high school when everyone made fun of us for are breasts or lack thereof? I do and I still think about it.” “Well, anything else new with you?” I said, trying to desperately get off the subject. “Well same old same old, how’s Jonathan doing?” “Good…” I said feeling odd talking about my “Husband.” “That doesn't sound good, problems in the bedroom?” said Mary with a laugh. “NO” I said flabbergasted at the comment. “Come on Lin, what’s the problem? Is he not pleasing you? Because I've been there before.” Mary said plainly. “No really its nothing, In fact I… have to get going now, I have to start thinking about what I will make for today’s dinner …bye” I said hanging up the phone.
“Christ, I don’t need this.” I said rubbing my head and pushing my long hair behind my ears. I then realized, that I did have to in fact start thinking about what dinner would be, now that I am my mother, I have all the jobs that she had before the swap, like planning the days dinner. “Something simple tonight, I need to relax” I said out loud.
Watching TV was about the only thing I did do when I didn't have work to do around the house. Sadly the only thing that was on most of the time that I was free was stupid soap operas and the news. “It beats going to school” I said with a little bit of a smile while flipping through the channels. Nevertheless it was times like these when I was alone where I just still couldn't believe the situation that I was now in, but I can’t do anything about it now, as much as I wish I could.
After a couple of hours of watching TV...
