I checked the chicken, breaded them and put them into the oven. Everything was just about ready. The only thing that was left was the rest of the family.
Twenty minutes went by until I heard the front door open and was a taken back by the sight I saw. My mother, or I should say “Son” was coming through the door with a girl, a girl that I had a crush on but never dared to ask out, Melissa Blake. “Hey Mom” My son said, which still sounded ridiculous even after three weeks of this hell. “Hi Misses Long” Melissa said with a smile. “Well hello to both of you” I said with the best smile that I could do. “I thought it would be a good idea if I finally showed you the girl that I was in love with” Michael said giving Melissa a quick kiss on the lips.
In shock all I could do at first was nodded, before I could say anything. “That’s…that’s wonderful” I said nearly crying. I just couldn't bear the idea of my own mother getting together with my high school crush. “Will you be staying for dinner Melissa?” I said trying to keep my composure. “I’d love to misses Long, if that’s alright with you” replied Melissa trying to be polite as possible. “Of course it would be alright with me” I said smiling, even though it would mess up my cooking considerably I only prepared for me, Michael and Jonathan tonight. “You two just relax for a bit, I’m still wondering where Mister Long is” I said while looking down at my watch. “Oh dad texted me earlier, he said he wont make dinner tonight” said my son. Thank god, at least dinner won’t be complicated now. “Well if that’s the case just sit at the table and I’ll be out in a moment.” I said trying to still contain some of my emotions.
I went into the kitchen and started to cry, the sight of my former mother and former crush kissing, made me feel worthless. I got myself together and got all the food ready, ready for a dinner that I thought I would never have in a million years… but alas this was my life.
