“Hifumi-chan, could I talk to you?” Hifumi looked at Shizuku, who still had her typical grin, though it was currently colored by something she couldn’t define.
“Of course.” Hifumi followed Shizuku into her office. As soon as the door was closed, she felt her lover hold her close, chest to chest.
“Mmm, my lover, I wish we could be more open.”
“We’re working now. What is it you wanted to tell me?”
Shizuku smiled – a truer smile she had never seen from her – and whispered something in her ear. Hifumi’s eyes widened. “Truly?”
“Would I lie to you?”
“No, it’s just that… How far along are you?”
“I’m thinking about two months. I first had an inkling when I didn’t have my period two weeks ago. Then I started to throw up in the morning. I took it last night; that’s why I wanted you to come.”
“Oh… I’m sorry.”
“It’s OK. I know how exhausted you are; we all are.”
Hifumi was silent for a moment while she thought. “Can… Can we actually take care of a ch1ld?”
“Of course we can. Besides, I plan to take some time off. Having a ch1ld is quite a tiring act, and someone should be home.”
“I wasn’t really thinking about the financial part or anything like that. What I was asking was can I be a good…” I don’t know what to call myself. “parent?”
Shizuku put her hands in Hifumi’s hair and started to comb it. “You’ll make a wonderful parent.”
Hifumi, overwhelmed, put her head into Shizuku’s chest and began to cry, all the while Shizuku sat next to her.
