Nodoka had grown up in a fairly traditional household. Her ancestors were samurai and she had been raised as such. She was used to the propriety and nuance of hosting guests as a traditional Japanese host.

But there were some problems that nothing could prepare you for. Such as your future daughter in law’s grandfather coming in, except he had been stabbed. Through the chest with a sword.

He was still bleeding.

“Err, Grandfather Tendo? Are you… do I need to call the hospital?”

“Hmm? Oh this. No this is fine. My sister was just chastising me.” He guestered behind him, and Nodoka saw the woman who had declared her intentions to stab him earlier walking in with Akane and Ranma at her side.

Right this was clearly not normal. Less normal than a husband who turned into a panda. Less normal than a son who she had bought dresses for and taught to cook for a future husband that was probably never coming. So she plastered on a smile and did the usual thing when things got too freaky. “So would you like some tea?” She ignored it.

“That would be lovely.” Grandfather Saotome said.

“Excellent, can you ask Soun to call a family meeting to. We have to talk about the new status quo.” The sister, who’s sword didn’t look bloody, said.

Right, just smile and nod. “Of course err… I didn’t catch your name.”

“It’ll be easier to give you it later so I don’t have to deal with everybody’s reactions individually.” She said.

Akane watched her family gather around the table. She looked over at Ranma, who was glaring at her grandfather and grandmother(?). He didn’t seem to approve of them. Which was, probably understandable.

Akane just felt tired. She felt more drained of energy than she had ever before in her life. Even more than when she had nearly died, which was impressive.. Still, it felt nice to have Ranma being in some sort of Vengeful Guardian mode. It almost made her forget that she should be his wife by now.

“The school called and asked if Akane and Ranma are staying home.” Kasumi said, “I told them yes and asked Nabiki to come over like you asked Grandfather, but she said she’s not coming.”

“Typical.” Her… grandmother… said. “Akane goes through Apotheosis and Nabiki thinks it’s not interesting enough.” She paused, “I mean, technically she can make money off it?”

“I don’t think she’s the Miko type.” Grandfather Tendo said.

“Bah she’d be more interesting then most of them.”

“Grandfather, what’s going on? Is Akane hurt?” Oh Soun was back. Akane watched her father, tears streaming down his face, shake Grandfather Tendo’s shoulders.

“She’s fine. Really you should be congratulating this boy on getting her down without burning down half the ward.” He tapped his chin, “Because I was pretty sure that was going to happen.”

“How was Akane going to burn down half the ward?” Ranma said, “And you two weirdos have been evasive long enough, what the hell is going on with her?”

Akane nodded, “I mean, if you want Nabiki around we could wait but-”

“Oh what the hell I’m tired of waiting.” Grandfather Tendo said, “Especially since Sister dear spilled the beans.”

“Hey nobody reacted when I said ‘Apotheosis’” Grandmother Tendo said. “I mean, I guess it might be obscure.”

“Right right. Well, long story short cute little Akane now is a full fledged arahitogami.” Grandfather Tendo said.

There was a brief pause, as Akane let that process. “Wait. Grandfather, you just said that I’m a god now.”

“That’s right. God in Human form, the usual jazz. Don’t know what your portfolio is yet but you got my storms, in some form. Which is awesome.” Grandfather Tendo said.

“Excuse me but how does that work? Why are you saying-” Nodoka said, and then one moment Grandfather Tendo was sititng in his seat and the next he was 50 years younger and wearing buch fancier clothing.

“Right then! No need to keep up the old man look!” Susano-o said, “Oh hey there Soun, guess I should break it to ya.”

“B-break it to me?” Soun stuttered.

“Your wife, my dear daughter, her real name was Tagori-hime no Mikoto.” Susano-O said.

Nodoka, being classically educated, recognize that name. “Wait, isn’t she one the children of Susano-O and Amaterasu?”

“That would be her, yes.” Amaterasu said.

Nodoka and Soun both blankly turned to her.

“Oh my. Does that mean we’re part of the Imperial Family?” Kasumi said.

“Technically.” Amaterasu said.

“Wait wait wait! You can’t be serious! You guys aren’t really gods and not… and not those gods in particular! This is a joke right?” Akane shouted. “I can’t be… I mean, come on.”

“I thought it was kind of obvious. I mean, Tagori did give herself the surname Tendo for crying out loud. ‘The Path of Heaven’? Not subtle.” Susano-O said.

“Akane dear, you did summon a storm and your hair grew out.” Amaterasu said.

“Y-yeah, but how did… what happened? Even if you guys are, uh, gods, me and my sisters clearly weren’t! What happened to make me change then!” Akane demanded.

“You died.” Susano-O said. Simply and and quietly.

“...what?”

“You remember, Akane? The great palace you found yourself in front of?” Amaterasu said.

Akane’s eyes widened. That memory, that dream. “H-what?”

“That was my dominion. You had passed, and your soul ascended to the Kami realm. . Myself and my brother were there to welcome you. But then you turned around and walked back into your human body.”

“For that boy.” Susano-O looked directly at Ranma, “She came back for this boy and I come to find him not having done the right thing yet?”

Oh, Ranma suddenly wondered if he might still be a little pissed at him for that. Actually, yeah, he probably still was. He was stroking that sword he suddenly had at his side while staring directly at him. Normally he'd have to worry about his own mother sharpening her sword. Not another family member with an already very sharp one.

“Hush Brother he’s doing his best.” Amaterasu said. “Besides, they were doing an… ugg… western style wedding. It’s best that was stopped.”

“That’s just because you’ve had a grudge against Jesus ever since he beat you in that bet.”

“He cheated!” Amaratsu’s face flushed.

“No he didn’t and you know it.” Susano-O smirked.

“..wait.” Ranma spoke up before she could decapitate her brother, probably again,, “You guys are brother and sister, right?”

“...yes?” Susano-O said.

“And then you guys had k1ds, one of whom is Akane’s Mom?” Ranma said.

“What about it boy?” Susano-O said.

“He’s talking about 1nc3st Brother, remember mortals have that DNA thing to worry about.” Amaterasu said.

“Oh right.” He said, clapping his hand into his palm.

“Also all I did was eat parts of his sword to birth them.” Amaterasu said. “We didn’t actually mate. That’s a mortal thing.”

“Fun though.” Susano-O said., and then Amaterasu stabbed him in the shoulder.

Kasumi and Nodoka’s eyes widened when the straight blade passed through him.

“You do realize you’re just making a mess for Kasumi to clean up.” Susano-O said.

Amaterasu let go of the sword, “Well I suppose I can just leave it in there for a bit.”

Akane looked over at the sword. Both of them had identical swords, “OK, so if you two are gods… then how did Mother die? I mean, you seem immortal Grandfather.”

“Right, err…” Both of them looked uncomfortable, but it was Amaterasu who spoke up. “It has to do with how god's reproduce. It can be any sort of process, and the end result is that the god mixes up their being with whatever they’re making children with. In your case, the human soul born from a union between Soun and Tagori’s human form. She… put a lot of herself into you three girls.”

“So much that when the accident happened she didn’t have the power to stay alive. So off to Yomi she went.” Susano-O said. “If it hadn’t happened she would have recovered in a few decades and been immortal again.”

A somewhat heavy silence followed that. “Well this all sounds very exciting!” Soun said, “Ah to think my dear wife had such a secret! Ah this must be a dream, good night Kasumi!” He fell to the ground and fainted.

“He took that better than I thought he would.” Amaterasu said.

Akane fell back onto her bed. She let out a long groan as she did so. This day. She still wasn’t quite sure this was all real. She looked outside her window, she could see the sun shining. The bright blue sky with only hint of clouds.

Akane didn’t know if she’d wake up and be back to school. Grandfather Tendo gone, never having showed up. She couldn’t be some kind of goddess, could she? She’d never like, asked people to worship her or had ever done anything miraculous!

“I mean, if I’m a god then I should be able to cook.” She said with a huff. She looked back up at the sun. “Really now, what do they think they’re pulling. This has to be some weird curse or magic thing. Not some secret heritage. Mom was a normal person. She held up her hand, it overlapping the sun. “I am not the daughter of a god. I’m not Amaterasu’s granddaughter.” She laughed at the thought, “Big sun goddess in charge of things.” She clenched her fist around where she could see the sun.

And then the sky turned dark. Then Akane could feel a heat in her fist now. She blinked, and stared at the sky. There wasn’t a sun, she could see the stars and moon. She looked down at her fist, feeling the heat within it. She slowly cracked it open a little.

She was holding the sun in her hand. Akane screamed and opened her hand. In a flash the sun was back in the sky, and the door to her room opened.

“Ow ow ow! Geez Akane I know this is a stressful time but don’t be so rough!” Amaterasu barged into her room. She was almost a mirror image of Akane. She had slipped out of her elaborate kimono and had on… a sailor fuku?

“How the fuck did I grab the sun.” Akane whimpered.

“"Goddess," Amaterasu pointed at her. "You understand that word, yes. Goddess. Say it with me now, Akane."

“How does that explain anything!?” She shrieked.

“Oh bother. Look, you exist partly on a conceptual level now. Everybody imagines grabbing things at a distance because perspective makes them look small, no? Since you’re a goddess now that means you grabbed the Sun. You perceived it as being something you could grab and so you did. Then, since I am also the Goddamned Sun I got squished between your hand for a bit.” She poked Akane in the chest, “It hurt, just consider yourself lucky that I’m a nice grandmama and didn’t bust out and spank you.”

“But the sun is a ball of plasma in space.” Akane looked back up at the sun. For some reason she felt like it was looking back at her.

“Yes and it’s also me.” Amaterasu said, “Now say it. Goddess.”

“G-G-goddess.” Akane said.

“Good!” Amaterasu said, “Honestly haven’t you wondered about some aspects of your life? How many people keeping falling in love with you? For Heaven’s sake dozens of boys got beaten up by you daily to try and win your favor. That’s a form of human sacrifice you know.”

“What?”

“Oh yeah, part of the reason you could become a god after dying instead of just, you know, going through the human afterlife cycles is that you’ve gotten some worship, in a way. People are drawn to you, mortal beings instinctively seek out gods and explanations for things. I imagine the same thing will happen to Kasumi when she passes, naturally I hope.”

“...and Nabiki?” Akane wondered what Nabiki got that might be considered “worship.”.

“I’m trying to keep the Yama from getting to her first.” Amaterasu said quickly. She then leaned in to grab Akane into a hug. “Now don’t you worry, now that you’ve settled in me and Susu are going to help you out.”

Akane brushed back her unnatural long hair, “Uh… so how are you going to do that.”

Amaterasu gave her granddaughter a smile Akane could only describe as “Sunny” and some part of her hated that. “Well now that you’re a full blown goddess we need to set up a shrine for you! I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding some worshipers and we should probably find a priest or priestess for you…” She paused, “Since your future husband changes sex maybe we should have some unique thing with your clergy, oh I know we could have them crossdress and…”

Akane’s jaw slowly hung down as Amaterasu began spouting off ideas for Akane to start her own religion.

“Daddy!” Nabiki’s voice came from downstairs, “Why is there blood all over the place in front of our house!?”

Amaterasu stopped her idea suggestions “Oh boy Nabiki’s home. You stay here me and SuSu will explain everything to her!” She jumped up and in a flash was back in that impressive regalia. “We should talk about this more soon Akane!” She didn’t open the door and leave the room, she just vanished.

Akane looked back up at the sky. She reached up and poked the sun. It felt hot. “This is going to be a long… life.” She groaned.

  1. *Akane’s friends come over to try and see what is going on.
  2. Ranma and Akane head out and try to talk about what is going on.
  3. Kuno and/or Ukyo end up heading to the Tendo Dojo after seeing the tornado.
