"Ugh! Keep that thing away from me!" Julie shrieked as she raced around the pool deck, trying to keep away from Miguel. For the moment, a lounge chair was all that separated the two of them.
"Come on Julie, I thought we had a thing. Why won't you give me a hug?" teased Miguel, who was jiggling with laughter. He could easily have swiped her with a pseudopods, but he was having fun baiting her. And given that she was once more Maggie's identical twin, he was in no hurry to change her.
"I just got this body back!" Julie protested. "If you think I'm going to let you turn me into a shot monster, you have another think coming!"
Maggie was sunning herself on the other side of the pool. She was amused by the strange game of tag, but she feigned disinterest. "Meh. It's my body. Do whatever you want with it, Mig..."
She didn't finish his name, for she was interrupted by a strange creature leaping over the hedge into the yard of the sorority house, one with feline ears and a tail.
"Well, here, kitty, kitty!" Maggie said, intrigued and a little turned on. The catgirl raced to her side with blinding speed.
"I know about the sodas. So does the dean. She's gone crazy and turned into some kind of a monster. I think she's coming here next," the girl panted, clearly out of breath.
Forgetting their game, Julie and Miguel sidled over to inspect the newcomer.
"And you are...?" Julie asked, clearly suspicious.
"I was here earlier. I'm Carl Murphy, head of Security."
Julie and Miguel snickered at that, but Maddie kept her composure. "I take it you drank a soda as well. Where did you get one?"
"There are a bunch in the Dean's office. New and improved, they said. She tricked me into drinking one. When she started pounding sodas herself, I got out of there as fast as I could. I think she's gone nuts. She was muttering something about 'Finally making the campus I want.'"
Miguel whistled. "Oh, shit. She definitely has a grudge against this place. What do we do? Hide? Fight?"
"We haven't done anything wrong," Maggie said, "So we're not leaving. We should record anything she says and does on our property, since this house is not owned by the University and the law is on our side. And maybe it wouldn't hurt to buff up with a few sodas first. We're going to need...hey, where did Julie go?"
