The web site promised delivery by 5pm but Jim found himself skeptical -- how could a product that only cost $10 possibly offer same-day delivery for an internet order? Regardless, Jim knew it wouldn't do to have Sharon receive nothing but this disturbing brand of loudly-coloured eye makeup. He decided to head out and pick up some other products to make up a makeup kit, of which the eyeshadow assortment would be only one item.

It was considerably later in the day when Jim returned home from the mall. He had been to the counters for Revlon, Versace and a whole constellation of makeup companies, but admittedly, most of his time had been spent at the computer store, looking over new games.

When Jim arrived home,

1. there was a message from Sharon.
2. there was a message from the bus depot for him to pick up the package.
3. there was a message from the post office for him to pick up the package.
4. *the package of makeup had already been delivered.
5. something else happened.
