Dabbler rolled his eyes. "Oh come on, Roy. Why does anyone read erotic BE fiction?"
Well, that's what we're trying to establish, isn't it?
"Examine your own mind, and I bet you could estalbish that yourself."
I've told you before, this isn't about me.
"Really? Didn't you tell me you have an option to interview yourself kicking around somewhere?"
No, that was you, using my voice, just like you're doing now. Though there is such an option, now that you mention it.
"Ha! So it's as much about you as it is me or anyone else being interviewed, isn't it?"
It is not, because this is my interview of you, not me. So this really isn't about me. It's about you.
"What was the question?"
I'm not really sure any more -- oh yes! Why do you like reading erotic BE fiction?
"It turns me on. I have a big breast fetish, just like pretty much everyone else who frequents this site. Just ask my--"
(Roy leaned closer with the microphone, anticipating some personal information was about to be revealed. Unfortunately, Dabbler noticed.)
"Never mind. Next question?"
(Roy sat back again, his disappointment obvious.) Okay. Why do you write it?
"Well, that's a tougher question. If you've followed my postings at all, you'll have noticed that the BE element is often, even usually, pretty nominal. More often than not, there's no eroticism at all. I tend to get so hung up on plot, and story, and characterization, and building the Backstage, that the supposed purpose of the BE AddVenture goes by the wayside."
I have noticed. I've also noticed that when you do go for the erotic you tend to go all out -- BE, TG, NC, occasional INC -- the works.
"You're speaking in code, Roy. Well, yes, I do try to pull my share of the load, even though I'm personally uncomfortable with some of those features."
Are you? Why use them, then?
Dabbler shifted in his seat uncomfortably. "Well, sometimes that's the direction the plot's going, and sometimes --"
-- sometimes you stick it in completely gratuitously. Come on, Dabbler!
"Okay, okay, I admit it! That sort of thing in erotic fiction, if done right, can be a real turn on. This is fantasy, you understand -- don't think I'd attempt any of this at home! In the real world, I mean."
Naturally not. (Roy snickered.)
"Anyway, look who's talking when it comes to the TG thing. What do you have to say for yourself, Roy?"
Dabbler, this --
"'-- isn't about me,' yeah, yeah, boy is that phrase getting overused."
Getting back to the point, which you seem to stray from entirely too often, do you, in your opinion, 'do it right' in your writing?
"That, as you've just noted, is a matter of opinion. I hope so. I can't say I'm entirely satisfied with performance as an erotic writer. What's erotic to some is just smut to others, and where to draw the line -- well, who can say, objectively?"
I'm not going to touch that one, I've done that existential metathread shit elsewhere. Let me make it simpler for you. Why do you write in the BE AddVenture?
"At last, an easy one. I'm a writer. That's an honest-to-goodness RL nugget of information for you, Roy. Writers like to get some feedback, or at least some indication that what they write is being read. People read this sex stuff. And when they follow up on my episodes, I know they've been reading my sex stuff, and find it at least interesting enough to want to add to it."
So it's an ego-boo thing.
"Partly. I also write because I like to write, and since I started writing here there's been enough interesting story happening in the AddVenture to keep me at it for the story's sake. In other words, I find a lot of other people's writing interesting enough to follow them up, too. Plus, I made the mistake of writing myself into the story. So when other people use or misuse my avatar, I often feel compelled to continue that thread..."
Any other reasons you like writing here?
"Well, there's the world-building aspect, the interesting characters, the illusion of interacting with other people I really only know as words on a screen -- sure, there are lots of reasons."
Let's continue along the lines of story and character.
"Sounds good to me. One ep back and one forward again?"
You've got it. Take Option 3 after going back this time.
"Will do."
Go back - Go to the parent episode.
