Unending BE - episode 175325

Dabbler looked thoughtful. "Well, yes, I suppose there are. But what does that have to do with story and character? One ep doesn't make a story, except in rare instances."

No, but it's the normal writing segment size around here. We rarely get to do entire stories on our own -- some of us don't even want to. As for character, that'll be my follow-up question.

"Hmm, okay. Well, as far as single eps go, I tend to be the most pleased with the sillier ones. Sorry, none really stand out in my mind for mention at the moment."

Aren't there any erotic ones you're proud of?

"Oh, a few. Episode 129727, where I brought the amazons Credensa and Sendula to the Backstage was one. A lot came of that one. I was also pleased with the sex scene I did for 'Lost in the BE AddVenture.' As for others, well, you can probably tell which ones they are, because I keep recycling them in later threads. Like the one where JigSaw did the girls of Central Casting all together in shishkabob fashion. And the 'Dabbler's Dream' ep in the 'Dab's bad night' thread. And the endgame of the Imp Chase, where Kiya Jaeger got hit with probably the weirdest transformation spell on record. I had her daughter reprise that one in the Anna's AddVenture thread. And I redid all three, along with a lot of other sex scenes, in my dream sequence from the 'Marco Polo' thread, my most ambitious recycling job to date. Which is a sequence I wrote wholly on my own, by the way, despite your assertion of the rarity of such things."

Okay, I guess that point goes to you. Any other sequences you're proud of, then?

"Most of the Backstage ones, actually. The first one I was extensively involved in was the 'Flowers' sequence with Deja Voodoo, where half the stalled threads from the early days of the AddVenture got dumped Backstage at once. Then there were the first threads set in the Hotel and the Bar & Grill, the Author Girls thead, the one that brought the Old Wizard Backstage (another one I did most of), the Imp Chase and 'Lizzie's Missing,' which weres mostly with JigSaw and Zorlond, 'Z&K's Sphere,' which was mostly with Zorlond and DVd, my contributions to threads like DJ and Lizzie's vacation, wedding, and honeymoon, and to 'V for Vanessa,' which was mostly Fitzgerald, and of course 'Anna's AddVenture' and 'Marco Polo,' which were big collaborative efforts. I should also mention Adama's 'Punker Girl Rampage,' though that one's been developing slowly."

What about the Backstage threads where you've taken a role?

"I've mentioned a few of them. I've had a lot of fun with the others, but they seem more like exercises in self-indulgence. Kind of like this thread, actually. But hey, any story where you get to work with Dolly Parton..."

Speaking of whom, I notice that in the Marco Polo thread F-Cup Fitzgerald killed her off -- or at least killed off the A.I. version you've been, er, 'working' with. Any comments you want to make on that?

"Fitzgerald is a heck of a nice guy who seems to have a penchant for writing bad things happening to good people. But most of them happen to him, so it would be bad form to complain. Besides, there's nothing less permanant than death in the AddVenture."

So Dolly's not really dead?

Dabbler grinned. "Let's just say I have plans on that score. Keep reading, Roy."

You work with the Backstage a lot. Isn't there anything you've enjoyed writing that hasn't related to the Backstage?

"Sure. I especially enjoyed working on the 'Mar Jari of Mars' thread, which has probably been my most extended collaborative effort outside the Backstage threads. I also had fun with the Ghost Jim thread, and the one where Sebastian Perlroth keeps deleting everything."

You seem to have a lot of favorites.

"Well, when you've done upwards of 700 episodes you have a lot to choose from. But hey, didn't you say you were going to ask me about characters, too?"

Yep, it's on the list. Take one step back and one step forward...

  1. >Here's the step back to the list. When you get there, the step to take forward will be Option 4...
