Unending BE - episode 207658

Novum Orbe Roboris Pactum. That means "Alliance for Strength in a New World", by the way, it's Latin. You know, we used to be the bad guys once - well, we didn't call ourselves as such back then, of course. Back in the day when people actually did expect the Spanish Inquisition, nobody expected us. That's what the old man said at our initiation, at least... to this day, we call our unit the Knights of Ni just to make fun of him.

But I digress. These days, we're our own organization; the downside of it is that we've no longer the resources we enjoyed until about the 1930s, the upside is that we get to choose our objective.

Personally, I specialize in coincidences... do you ever feel that when you're doing something important for those around you, there's some kind of guardian angel watching over you? Well... that's a load of crap, of course, but people like me sometimes take the role. It can be a lot of fun sometimes, especially if you enjoy making pranks.

For example, take my current assignment:

  1. I've got to subvert the social order in a high school to prevent a Columbine-type shootout in a couple of years that will result in the killing of two future brilliant scientists. According to the analytical engine, the best chance I have to do this is.... pose as the new girl in town? Oh, man. I'm a straight male, dammit!
  2. I'm supposed to go to Japan to prevent a boy to get rid of a curse? What the heck? Has the analytical engine blown a vacuum tube?
  3. Looks like your average case of magic clean-up. This Mrs. Marjorie was supposed to join Grameen and expand its scope greatly, but someone turned her into some kind of sex toy...
  4. Something Else. Analog computers are the only way we know to predict the future, but man are they slow!
