After weeks of exhausting training sessions, Sharon had never had any problems dropping off to a fast sleep past the first few nights; her trainers worked her so hard that even the firm and narrow cot in her quarters seemed like heaven by the time she collapsed onto it.
So the fact that she couldn't get to sleep now was bothering her. Both girls had taken turns using the chamberpot (Keba had been extremely flustered until Sharon turned her back and pretended to study the wall for a few minutes to offer her some privacy) and then squeezed onto the bedframe, lying close with Sharon on the inside with her back to the cool stone wall and the dark-skinned new girl half-curled up next to her, spooning style. Try as hard as she might, Sharoon could not fall asleep; she knew it would be bad the next morning when she faced another round of grueling training exercises but the closeness of Keba's body breathing softly next to her drove all attempts at slumber from Sharon's mind.

Around the male gladiators she felt a certain camraderie; the constant chaperonage of the guards and her isolated quarters left her without any outlet for sexual feelings that had laid dormant until now.
