"I will not concede to your petty mortal demands!" Death shouted.
"Fine, but if I win in the end, maybe?" Jim suggested.
"If you win... If... sure. If you win." Death said with an arrogant smirk. "You lost, so you can choose the next game."
"I choose... checkers," Jim announced.
A table with a checkerboard appeared. They both sat down, and Death made the first move. Several turns passed before Death made an advance that left his pieces open. Jim captured three pieces. His own piece was taken after that. Things slogged for a few turns and then Jim got several pieces wiped out. Jim was slowly being exterminated after that. Now he had three pieces left. Suddenly he had a brilliant plan: he could sacrifice one but it would clear the road for the other two to reach the other side. Death seemed more concentrated on stopping Jim from reaching the other side than getting himself some kings. Jim went forward with that plan, and it wasn't long before half of Death's pieces were gone and Jim had two kings. The question was: was it enough to win?
