Attention: Do not read the following unless you want to be bored. If this is the case, skip down to the bottom, where you will see a second line break.
"Well, yes and no. It was from another Alt, but that really doesn't explain it." Mr. Williams said.
"Oh," said Jim, feeling like an idiot.
"But the important thing is that you're beginning to grasp the concept of these Alts! Most people just give up along the line and get cross-eyed and start blithering, or just yell at the people who do understand." Mr. Williams said.
"So then, why is it that I have no memories of this?"
"Well, it is from another Alt. But also, this project was done for a simple reason." He explained. "You see, Mr. Black may have been a genius, but he was dedicated to the point of insanity."
"What do you mean?" Jim asked.
"He was trying to artificially create an Alt."
"What?"
"You see, Mr. Ellis," Mr. Williams said. "Back then, the technology we have now was not available. The thing about Alts is that they are all different, and people have no memories of things occuring to versions of themselves in other Alts."
"I don't get it." Jim said.
"Let me tell you about something. You see, there is a group out there, known as the 'Men in Gray.' And this group, or the MIG, have many things on their agenda, including order. They value and strive for order so much that many of the Alts they control are locked in a state of perpetual warfare-"
"And why is that?" Jim interrupted.
Mr. Williams sighed for a moment, and then continued. "You see, they do this to be in complete control, and have every citizen of their Alts be a perfect, selfless citizen. Supposedly, they do this because they fear an attack from outer space."
Mr. Williams was having trouble concentrating, so he turned ofof the screen, which was still showing static.
"The reason I bring this up," he continued, "Is because not only do they want control, they refuse to allow too much magic. And BlackCo., along with ChangeCorp., too, use tons of magic. The MIG did not wish to allow them to have Node technology, because it could allow rampant use of magic to spread and cause disorder in their Alts."
Mr. Williams took the device back out of his pocket, and pointed it at the screen.
The screen began to play the events of episode 25122.
When it finished, Mr. Williams turned it off and continued.
"His superiors at E.M., the mother corporation, needed to run a psychological experiment about what would happen in an alternate reality. Since the MIG would attack and ruin every attempt to do so, he created a fake alternate reality here, on Earth. When the experiment was nearing completion, it had become possible to superimpose that on a variation of reality, or in effect, create a brand new Alt based on the experiment. However, the Doll Revolution prevented that from happening."
"I think I get it..." Jim said.
"Mr. Ellis, you are here for a specific reason." Mr. Williams said.
"What?"
- "We don't have the technology to do anything, but our project here does have a magic device, which can send you back in time and to another Alt, where you can steal the technology of the Alt-Catapult from BlackCo. before the Doll Revolution."
- "We need you to steal MIG technology. Due to an... event... at a hotel, they may harm you, but not retire you from existence."
- "There is zero Alt related Node technology in this Alt, but we do have a magic device to open a portal, which you can go through. By communicating back, we can back-engineer the technology."
- "We want you to steal technology from the UNA. We have captured their agent, so they might think you are him."
