"Back off, Wonder Woman," Robin demanded. Her knife was still stuck in Green Arrow's thigh, but she had another in her hand which she now held at Ollie's throat. And even Wonder Woman wasn't fast enough to grab Robin before the forest outlaw could cut open Ollie's throat.
"Robin, please," Diana begged. "If you kill him you'll be just like he is."
"So what do you suggest," Robin asked sarcastically, "that we just let him go? Well, if I slit his throat, and if I'm just like he is, then I guess you'll have to let me go too."
Wonder Woman suddenly darted forward, hoping to grab Robin by surprise, but the ex-high school cheerleader slashed her knife up against Ollie's neck. It didn't do more than scratch him, but he yelped like a frightened dog, and it made Wonder Woman stop in her tracks.
"I said back off!" Robin shouted. "You make another move like that and your friend has breathed his last."
Wonder Woman took a step back. She didn't know what else to do. They were in a standoff.
But then a ruckus kicked up behind them and from between the trees three of Robin's outlaws appeared, dragging a cursing, roped up Arsenal along with them. "Look what we found," one of the Mary's hollered smugly. And then they threw Arsenal to the ground. Looking up, he found himself facing a crowd of very unfriendly Robin Hood wannabes.
In defiance he spit at them and shouted, "You guys got lucky! If I wasn't wounded by Wonder Woman you would never have got the drop on me!"
Someone jabbed a wooden spear into his wounded leg, making him scream, and said, "I don't have a problem with being lucky. As a matter of fact, I'll take good luck any day of the week."
"Please!" Wonder Woman exclaimed, "it doesn't have to be this way! More death and killing won't make the situation any better!"
"It can hardly make it any worse," Robin countered, "and you should know that. You are a Super after all. And even if I believe that you've somehow turned over a new leaf, the rest of your friends sure as hell haven't. They're still power-mad bastards. So, if you're trying to convince me that they can be dealt with in some kind of peaceful manner, that we can sit down and talk with them, negotiate with them, well, you more than anybody else should know what a crock of shit that is."
"But Wonder Woman's right!" D.J. interjected, taking a stand by Wonder Woman's side. "Starting a war with the Supers will only get you all killed. And executing Green Arrow won't solve any of your problems. There's got to be an alternative!" Wonder Woman turned to D.J. and smiled, grateful for her support. D.J. smiled back and then glanced behind her at Dabbler. If they were going to convince Robin to back down, then they would need the others' support as well.
But when Dabbler walked forward and opened her mouth, D.J. got the shock of her life. "No, D.J., Wonder Woman isn't right. Robin is."
D.J. stared at Dabbler in utter disbelief. Dabbler gazed back at her with firm, unwavering eyes. The others in their group began to fidget uncomfortably, each one edging closer to the person that they agreed with. Mort and Rincewind sided with Dabbler. JigSaw and Sindy moved toward D.J.
The group was now split. Friend against friend. Everyone was in a standoff.
