"Unfortunately both the front and the back door will be shut," Jim went on. "You jumped out through an open window and then pulled me through after you, remember." [365019]

Melissa looked up at the window. It was only four feet above her, but given her shrunken size that equated to something like 38 feet. There was a creeper going up beside the window that she might be able to climb.

"I might be able to get inside," she said. "But I'll need both hands to hold on with, so I'll have to leave you outside. Just where is this backup device?"

"In my bedroom upstairs, on the table beside the bed."

"Upstairs? Oh, great."

"The stairs are carpeted, and the carpet has a reasonable pile. So I think you might manage to climb the stairs. The hardest bit will probably be getting up onto the bedside table."

1. *"Well, I'll give it a try. Once I've grown myself to my proper size, I'll come back for you."
2. "It sounds too difficult. Isn't there anything else we can try?"
