Skunkette Jim pondered her choices. Not that there were particularly many
of them. She felt most comfortable as mostly human, so forget about the
four-legged side. Which meant it was really just a question of going
through the nearest gate now or later.
How did that song go again? I was only waiting for a better moment that
didn't come; there never could be a better moment than this one. Then
the singer started raving about a swan but that was neither here nor
there. At least it had nothing to do with Jim's problem.
She shrugged and walked through the no-return sign.
"Just as I thought!" she said to herself. Well, not quite. Once
again there was no exit behind her and a new path in front of her, but this
one was different. The path was curving slightly so she couldn't see how
long it was or what was on the other end, and there were several big signs
along both sides of the path. So this was no longer a question of choosing
one of two, but choosing one out of many.
She went up to the nearest group of signs and looked at them.
The first one was simple. It meant "Bumpy road", but she
remembered how Jim had teased his sister by pointing out that it looked like
a bra, and suggested that the true meaning was "Busty women
ahead". Considering this was a BE Addventure, she wouldn't be the
least surprised if passing through that gate made her more busty.
She was less sure about the next one. It meant "Dangerous curve",
and she remembered how Jim's sister had tried to get even with him by
claiming that it looked like a boomerang, and, um, well... Her jokes had a
tendency to end up half-baked, and this was no exception. Anyway, the big
question was what it would do to this skunk girl. It was unlikely to send
her to Australia (!), where there weren't any skunks anyway, so maybe it
would just do something to her curves or make her "bent"
(!!).
The last two were "Narrow road" (which might just narrow
something else) and "Meeting traffic" - she had no bright ideas
about that one. And then there were more signs further down the path...
