Elmer lay in bed swigging gin and staring blankly at the TV, his mind whirling with possibilities. From his point of view something had gone right at last, and he was finally where he always deserved to be, in charge.
As he saw it the world had always denied him his due, everyone was constantly keeping him down and blocking him from taking his rightful place, despite the fact he was plainly better and smarter than just about everyone else, and a hell of a lot more deserving of success, something he went to great pains to point out all the time. So what if he’d never graduated High School, all those books and shit were a waste of time, and he was smarter than any sissy-collage graduate, if he wasn’t he couldn’t gyp them all the time now could he? (Elmer conveniently forgot, as he did so many things that didn’t agree with his worldview, that he very rarely got away with any of is petty little thefts or cons, mainly because he was just to stupid and arrogant to be even a little discrete about what he was doing).
But now he was the one in charge, he was the one with the power, and they were all going to pay, they were going to suffer like he’d suffer, he’d drag them down from the positions of power and respect that they’d never really deserved, and turn them into the lowest of the low; he’d reduce them to being the scum of the earth, and then he’d rain shit down of them. But most of all it was the bitches that he was going to tear down, always looking down at him, teasing him, thinking there better, even though all of them were nothing but a bunch of whores. Well he’d drag them down to his level and see how they liked it, by the time he was through all the bitches that had ever crossed him would be begging to be brought to heal…
Slowly a nasty little grin stretched its way across Elmer’s face; he knew just who he was going to start with.

Paula Goodwin was working at her desk when her assistant called through to remind her of the board meeting, after thanking Samantha and making a few finishing touches to what she was working on Paula logged-off her computer and started for the door, but as she was almost there she suddenly caught her heel on something and stumbled…
Only to straighten up to find herself blinking in confusion in the centre of her own apartment. Looking around in surprise, Paula’s eyes suddenly widened in shock as the apartment began to change around her. The elegant furniture and ornaments began to…fade away, to be replaced with a tatty mismatched load of broken down furniture that looked like it had been retrieved from the city dump, and an impressive array of empty beer cans and whisky bottles. The walls began to darken with grim, and the light was suddenly cut of as most of the windows were covered over with cardboard, the better to hide the sea of rubbish that suddenly covered the floor. As Paula looked on at this in horror she felt something shift inside her, with a feeling of dread she scrambled over to a cracked mirror hanging on one of the walls and gasped at what she saw…
