But of course, since the transaction was optioned, it wasn't off-camera. Nor, Jim realized with a sinking feeling, had the note even gone to the person he had intended to pass it to. Instead, Dabbler got it.
"What's this, Jim?" asked Dabbler. "A note? Something you don't want the others to know, is it? Let's just see... hmmm, how about that?"
"What is it?" asked Dolly, curious.
"It's a note from L.E. from the Original Backstage about some sort of anniversary party, there. Hey, that's right! Fancy me forgetting about that. I think I'll drop by, and maybe take the opportunity to return some of L.E.'s stuff..." And with a wave of his hand, Dabbler created a godlike Fiat just like the one Isydoria Wydmarkey had just incursed in, only with a different set of licence plates.
"But what about--" Jim started to protest.
"Don't worry, just be a minute," said Dabbler brightly, hopping in. "Anyway, if something important comes up I can always talk to you at the party, I'm sure some version of you is already there."
"That's true," Jim mused, his omniscience kicking in. "But the version of me who's there doesn't see all and know all like I do. I suppose I could transfer some of my omniscience over to him--"
"Whatever. The important thing is that whether or not he's omnicient, you are, so anything I say to him, even if he doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about, you'll receive, right?"
"Um, I guess."
"Wonderful thing, omniscience. Almost as godlike as these fiats, eh? Though it's funny to hear L.E. would be into these things, I always thought he drove a Toyota Corolla LE..."
Reality blinked, and while it wasn't looking Dabbler drove off in the Fiat.
